Kapex Issues

  Hi Guys,

I am just a dealer, not a Festool employee, but have been in contact with them regarding the issue of the plate and scraping. Obviously, Festool is aware that this is a recognized problem on some of the saws and is working feverishly to find out exactly "what the heck happened". It seems, in most cases, swapping out the cam plate resolves the issue - at least saws that have been "repaired" at Festool. If there was a "burr" created by the grinding another step is needed to "correct" the problem. All saws coming from Festool are being checked for proper plate clearance. Others (myself included) will also be checking our own stock. Festool is also checking to see if excessive heat is playing a role - so far it has had no effect.
Not to minimize for one second, everyone's concern, but this is occurring on a small amount (yes, yes, yes, should not be occurring on any) of the saws but Festool will do whatever it takes to "make it right" for the customer.
As soon as Festool gathers more information,  as soon as they know more about this, and can speak more definitively about it, they will post here. Truly sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Bob, Thanks for the post, I think it must be the heat. My saw worked fine when I first received it. Low 70F. It went to 90F today and I can't move it. Look forward to getting it sorted out. Thanks. Chad

Chad,

That's interesting to note! I am sure Festool is looking in to this and the posts here at the FOG and other forums, as well as phone-ins.

Chad, I'm not so sure heat is the issue, my saw has been idle over the weekend and the first part of the week until earlier tonight. The saw was working smoothly at first but after a few times swinging the saw back and forth some scrapping started happening on the left end (50 degree side) and ultimately over the whole range of the miter settings.

Bob, I'm glad the dealers and Festool are handling this issue so well, I hope its figured out quickly.

it's funny that you say that brice, i had the same exact problem last week and contacted my local woodcraft regarding the issue.  they contacted festool immediately and set me up with a replacement saw three days later.  so far so good.  fwiw i've been using the saw inside, outside, humid and 80 degree "normal" days.  so far, so good with the replacement saw...time will tell.

I'm curious to know the cause of the problem but it's great to know the solution to the customer's problem is so simple, as long as the customer has a little time to spare.

wow, for a very small amount of saws I guess this is an unlucky group, I'd better open mine up and make sure I don't have a problem on mine.

HI ALL,

I thought I was crazy to fall for these tools and spent a fortune even though I have everything in Dewalt etc...  I dislike Dewalt for the fact that they have grown so big and do not consider quality anymore. Consider their news dual compound sliding miter - what is wrong? How much time you have - I am just not into typing everything out.

Just want to saw I was in heaven finding discovering Festool and can not wait getting to the site to start cutting or sanding. The tools are just plain cool and functional. I wish the stores sold it here in Canada. We have to use a distributer and have to wait weeks. I just drive down to WA to go shopping.

Now, about this post - I am glad to see that Festool and the retailers are egar to hear about problems and finding solutions. I support companies that have this type of attitude 100%. I hope to post something useful soon but have no real complaints yet. I am the type of person that will find problems if they exist. So far the problems that I had with Dewalt (ie. laser, flexing and functionality) are none existant with Kapex and their sander150 is %&*$ awesome. It is like having an orbital beltsander. I use this badass on renos for sanding old walls with 26grit. The paper lasts for ever. Usually go through a box in a few days with other sanders and have to work an area for quite awhile but not with my 150. The main thing was I was having problems with the dust and my lungs. I got the 33 and seems to take care of everything. The storage is useless though. Actually this is my only complaint. I thought it was better than the 22 so I could put bags there. Nope. Little disappointed about that but anyways.

Again, glad to see I am not alone with loving these tools so much. And who ever said money does not buy happiness - Bahhh! If you are poor you can not buy any Festools!

PS. Spell checker's first word it did not recognize was Festool? Someone should fix that since this is the Festool message board.
