So this is the third or fourth time I'm going to need to send this in for service. This time no warranty, so it's all on me. I was cutting some moulding and mid cut it decided to stop on me. Wont turn on at all any more, but the laser is still operational. I moved the blade manually and it sounds like it's grinding. Is this the armature? Brushes? What is the best way to go about getting this repaired quickly and not expensively? Should I ship it myself or bring it to a dealer? I'm in Canada so shipping is probably an arm and two legs.

Sorry to hear about your Kapex.  I might suggest that you contact Festool Canada Service @ 613-363-0169

The Festool Canada website says to return it to the dealer you purchased it from if you need service, but I don't know if that is primarily just for tools under warranty.

Yes I would call Festool and explain the problem.
613 is an Ottawa area code, I am guessing that's where they repair it.
Bring it back to the dealer you sent it to last time (lee valley) so they can ship it. Just curious How long did it last this time? 2yrs.?

Definitely sounds like the armature making contact with the outer windings.  Four returns, ouch!  What were the issues for the other returns for service if you don't mind elaborating.  Do you use the saw every day, or a lot? Sorry to hear that [sad].

Thanks for the replies. This is only the third time I've sent it in. First was for an oil leak out of the head, which I remember was a problem a  few years ago. I had to send it in again for the same problem as well as something else that I can't remember. I called the Canadian Festool service centre and it went to voicemail so I just decided to head to Lee Valley and see what they could do. Even though it was over the 3 year warranty they still were able to send it to Festool for repair (for only $15) and I imagine I will have to pay for all the repairs when it is returned. Great service as always from Lee Valley! Overall I'm not too displeased with the Kapex - it sees daily use and was used quite hard over the last few weeks, cutting 10" poplar baseboard. After using my bosch axial glide this last week I will say I do like the 12" blade and accuracy of it, but as far as dust collection goes the Kapex is with out a doubt superior.

Yes I have the axial and I too like it but it's so dusty as you mentioned.  I bought the kapex rubber dust catcher and it fits prefectly on the axial and catches much more dust.  I'm really desperate to get better dust collecting for my workshop and keep my axial in my job trailer for the outdoor use operations.  I really have decided I need to get a kapex this year, even if something happens, I'd be fine with it as the service is so great, and the dust collection just can't be beat.  Please let us know what the repair was and how much, thanks.

Anyone have the part number for the boot?  EKAT is not cooperating with me at the moment.  Thanks
