Kapex lacking power when connected to ct26

all my tools are US 110V and off the same tranny.

I have one extensision that adapts to the us plug. I plug both my CTs into that plug in to the same 3.3KV tranny.

I am able to run my 2200 and use my Kapex with a different CT without any issues.

I have 2 , 3.3KV Tranny's. One works better then the other. I think someone mentioned the continuous power. That could be the issue.  But I only use 1 tranny.

I just ran 35mm piranha pine though my CMS and then cut to length with my Kapex yesterday. No issues.

Now a off the wall question .

How sharpe/ clean is your blade? Oak can wear a blade out pretty quick.

Have you changed blades? Maybe use a more agreesive blade like a panther blade.

Hi Jobsworth, I have ran the saw and vac from 2 separate outlets on the same 25m cable reel plugged in the same 3.3kva transformer and both saw and vac run as expected (the blade has just been resharpened which eleminates that too it's the 60t stock blade) but if I plug the kapex into the vac and run it on auto when the saw starts before the cut even starts I can tell the saw has less speed/power and as the saw gets to the bottom of the cut power reduces sometimes stopping the blade and the vac slows during the cut. Bit stumped as it worked fine over the last 12-18 months or so I've been using the set up.
Either there's a problem with the vac or I need a larger transformer to supply the vac and saw in the same outlet on the transformer?

How old is the saw? If it's still under warranty send it in asap. Once my saw started running like that (less power from the get go) it was a matter of months before the motor went.  Im not saying yours will but I had that symptom also.

Yeah it's still under warranty it's only about 18m old, but the thing is it runs perfect when I'm not using it connected direct to the vac so makes me think it's either insuffecnt power to the vac to run both tools or a problem with the vac

My Guess and its only a guess is that you need a bigger tranformer, have a mate that had a similar problem running on an "own brand" budget 3kva transformer he got a bigger transformer and it was fine. Later he tried out another 3kva transformer that was a high quality one and it worked ok on that. no idea why  [smile]

My kapex is just the same. I have to run it straight off the transformer. Mines 3.3kva and it will cut MDF and softwood fine but anything harder the kapex will bog down. I might get a 5 kva at some point but they're so heavy. I've run mine off a 5 kva  before and it works through my midi then.

It's a great saw but my old makita runs fine on a 3 kva so it's a bit annoying

I assume a "cable reel" is what we call an extension cord here.  I wonder if by the time you add the vacuum and its length of power cord into the mix if there is too much of a drop.  Can you run it all on a shorter length of cord.

Gona try using a 5kva transformer to see if this is them problem, but they are such a big lump to haul about I may just endure the inconvenience of manually switching the vac on and have them plugged in separately if it is the case

If it still works as separate plugs onto the transformer using the 25' real, then it is something with the vacuum... The. Cord or its outlet.

So I doubt it is the plug it cable.

Got in touch with Festool uk service today regarding the ct/kapex issue and they confirmed that the transformer needs to be 5kva as the vac can't pull enough power from a 3.3kva for the initial start up of both machines as well as when under load. They advised either running them separate and manually operating the vac (. Which is a pita) or use the larger transformer which is equally a pain but at least once it's out the van and rigged up it won't need to be moved until the job is complete, going to see what the best prices can get on a 5kva transformer. Does anyone know if you can buy an additional 110v outlet to fit to a ctl26 to run 2 tools off the one vac?

Unfortunately there isn't a secondary module in 110V for the extractors.

What would be great is for someone to build a transformer in the form factor of a SYSTAINER that could be used with the SYS-ROLL boards or similar. I think that would be popular.

Glad you got it sorted, I think a number of issues with festool kit stem from the electrical supply issues.
Good luck with the 5kva transformer, they weigh about the same as an obese teenager and are death to your back to move , think i would invest in a dedicated sack truck  [big grin]

May have been a faulted power supply on the site I was on as started a new job today and the kapex/ vac seem to be working as normal when linked up now  [smile] but will still pick up a 5kva to eleminate any future problems.
