Kapex Laser Setting

Does anyone know how wide the Kapex lasers will spread. Or, more importantly, if they will spread at least 1/8" (3.175mm)?

Couldn't find it in any of the specs or manuals.

Do you mean 1/8” total between the lasers or 1/8” on either side of the blade? Assuming you mean 1/8” total, then I would be shocked if they didn’t spread that far. Unfortunately, though, to adjust the lasers, the user has to pierce the sticker covering the laser adjustment holes, which may turn some owners off.

[member=7266]jeffinsgf[/member] I also can't find a specification, but the Supplemental Manual does state that the the lasers can be adjusted to outside the kerf of the Festool blades.  I have never adjusted my lasers (my typical working conditions are too bright to see them) but my kerf in my Fastcap tape is 17/128" wide so it seems like they should.

Thanks, guys, we just started selling a Kapex replacement blade and a customer asked if the lasers could be adjusted to the 1/8" kerf width. I didn't want to start messing with the boss' personal saw if the answer was widely known. Guess I'll have to, though.

Well, after all that I learned our Kapex blade isn't .125" kerf like the other miter saw blades...it is 2.5mm like the factory blade.

I don't know...maybe I'm just an old guy that actually paid attention in math classes but it seems pretty simple to me...one each 1/128" distance would equal .0078125" so just multiply it mentally by 17 and you'll find it equals .1328125"...pretty easy to do without a calculator or some paper & a pencil.

Unfortunately, that's not the equivalent of a 2.5mm saw blade kerf which is actually .0984251968505 in width.

So .1328125" is actually equal to a kerf of 3.3734375mm, but that's still a fairly manageable number when requesting a custom width saw blade for cutting 2x materials.  [smile]

Seriously, when I transfer a measurement, I use whatever that lines up squarely and exactly on the tape. For example, if it's 25mm, I use Metric; 1", Imperial. I can use a mix of both in a single project.

I'm with you Chuck... [smile] ...I use 1/64th's, 1/50th's, 1/100th's or millimeters...whatever lines up. Easy to read and then easy to transfer.

This old geezer still designs in the wobbly old Imperial units but there is a calculator by my Kapex, which has metric extensions, for that multiply by 25.4 to set the stops.
