Kapex Lasers stopped working.

I just got my Kapex a few weeks ago and set it on my bench to check it out while waiting for my UG stand that was backordered.  Everything seemed to work fine and after a few cuts I left it until my stand arrived yesterday.

I mounted the Kapex on the UG stand set up the wings and maser a few trial cuts.  I noticed that the lasers weren't on so I unplugged the unit from my CT22 and tried again.  Since it was the end of the day I left it unplugged over night and tried again today with no lasers.  I tried powering it from a wall receptacle as well as through the CT22 on Auto setting.

Anybody have any clues as to what might be wrong?  I have only cut dried walnut and dried oak on the machine a few times.

Jack,  please don't yell at me for asking this.  You did turn the lasers on with the switch on top didn't you?  They do time out after a while.

Peter

Thanks for the response Peter.

Yes, I tried to turn them on several times and even waited while unplugging the machine to see if there was some kind of reset.  The switch is kind of soft with no clear on/off click which I assume is normal.  I was able to turn them on and off when the Kapex first arrived a few weeks ago.

Look for obstructions on the laser lens cover.

Is it possible that adjustments were made to the laser, which could have rendered them completely out of focus?

Shane,

I only unboxed the Kapex and tried it on my bench and waited for the UG stand.  When I got the UG stand I mounted the Kapex and tried it and noticed that the lasers weren't working.  The only thing that I did to the Kapex was change the stock blade to the Festool finish blade.  I cleaned the new blade with acetone and dried it before mounting it on the machine.

No other adjustments were made to the Kapex.

Can you look at the laser lens? To make sure it wasn't dislodged or something else happened during the blade change?

I could if I knew how?  Is there some detailed instruction to get to the laser lens?

Jack

If you look where the blade goes up into the housing, you will see the lens. Outlined in yellow in the photo below.

Be sure to unplug your saw before messing with it.

I would think you could see the laser even if there was a problem with the lens or something else if you look up into the housing. Again, practice care with power to the saw. Keep fingers away from the blades. (I have to say it).

Shane,

Problem fixed, it looks like you earned your money again today.  I found the laser info on the Supplemental manual and took the lens cover off.  It was covered with perhaps a light oil and saw dust.  I cleaned it with warm water and soft soap, re-installed and it works fine.

It sure is nice to have a place to go and ask questions and get answers that give you immediate relief.  I also made an Ipe zero clearance insert today and the cuts are squeaky clean.

Thanks again,

Jack

I can just see the job description that Festool must be drafting for your replacement: "Able to remotely diagnose tool problems within an hour at all hours of the day"

Thanks.

Just doing my job the best I can and serving our customers. You guys put bread on my table and provide for my family. For that, I'm grateful. Like I've said before, it's just treating you guys like I would want to be treated as a customer.
