Hi everyone just new here and looking for some help, i have just bought the Kapex 120 mitre saw and was wondering if anyone could tell me whether the base that turns from 50 round to 60 degrees is that supposed to have a bit of play or be quite solid, my one if i lock it at 0 degrees i can rock it forward to back when i pull the saw down to cut, i know that there would have to be a bit of play otherwise you would not be able to turn the table, i just thought that this price of saw it would be rock solid as even my small dewalt doesn't have that much play thank for any help Jim

Welcome!
My Kapex doesn't "rock" when I lock it into position so no that is not "normal". I believe that should be quite solid particularly after you have locked it down.
My Kapex does rock when the base is on a slightly uneven surface, have you checked to see if that is the problem? How does the rocking affect the cut it all?

[welcome] to the fog

are you saying that the center piece rocks in relation to the bed around it or are you saying that the head rocks in relation to the bed

either way there should be minimal play. if it excesive you should send it in

Welcome to FOG.

Please contact the Service Department of Festool UK.

I own several Kapex 120 and have helped many people set them up.

This wiggle you mention is not normal, but also might be easily adjusted by you with some coaching by the Festool service folks.

I dont think he means the entire kapex rocks   he means the centre piece which rotates round rocks on the pivot point.    Which should not have any rock!   Having that rocking means if he was to set his saw at 45 degree the saw could drop  down to 46 degree from the two side pieces of the base on the kapex but it would still be 45 from the base its attached to which rotates!  So if he was cutting a small piece of timber which just sat on the rotating part of the base this rocking would not affect the cut at all   but once the timber spans across the centre piece the cut will be affected and can cause binding and your angle wont be accurate.

The only thing I can think of is the split sleeve that fits between the miter base bore and the saw base post to take away any slop may have been installed incorrectly.  I had my miter base resurfaced by a machine shop to make sure it's dead flat.
