Kapex Mitre Station - Video

Hi Everyone,

Once I came up with my "Mobile Workshop" concept I knew that I had to do something about making a suitable Kapex Mitre Station. It is almost complete except for the rear fence and associated cut-off length stop and some clamping points. I know that a number of you have been keen for this to get posted so here it is:



I started out thinking that I would film the complete construction - I have over 12 Gb of clips ! But I have decided to pull it into one video with a separate one planned later when I do the fence and clamp options (that could be Christmas time).

I couldn't help noticing your dc setup behind the kapex.. Could you
tell/show us more about that?

Ps: you're video has a growling background noise, is that a defect?

Many thanks for the kind words.

The DC setup is under development and is about to move to version 3. I will be making a video that describes the full setup and explain how it can be made very cheaply. It will mean that several hoses can be attached to a single Festool extractor using blast gates. There is a fool proof method of ensuring that the right blast gate is open. Also, rather than having to switch the DC to manual to do a sweep up I have a solution that means there is no need to access the front of the DC at any stage of its use - it stays in auto mode. My setup is based around my brilliant CTL 26. I cannot afford a second one and hence the solution.

I have offered my previous ideas to Festool but they have never shown any interest and so I will be producing drawings and lists of recommended parts so people can make their own. Hopefully my video will be out within the next 3 weeks.

The background noise has been getting worse and so my cheap and cheerful wireless microphone system, which has done well for about 18 months, is about to be replaced. I will be getting a professional system which does not require the receiver to be tethered to the mains. It should arrive on Monday. Those people who have very kindly bought a copy of my ebook from Amazon after receiving drawings from me are helping to pay for the system.

The prototype DC system is extremely effective and I know that I can make it even better. I am awaiting some parts which have been out of stock for a while and these should arrive in the next 5 - 10 days. I will then need about 5 days to get it fixed up and tested (it is only a few hours work but I have a lot of other things going on). Provided what I produce passes the New Brit Workshop "Golden Rule ** " I will make a video about the whole thing.

I noted you did not extend the fence or any means of indexing for repetitive length cuts.  Is that something you considered and chose not to implement, or a future enhancement?

That is in the pipeline. I have not yet finalised my plan but there will be another video about this very important feature - hopefully by Christmas time.

Luv the rolling work stations. I basically did the same thing for my Trailer. Although yours looks more like fine cabinet building, Beautiful work. I know mine will get abused and couldn't see spending $40+ per sheet for cabinet grade plywood.

I keep every bit of the leftovers from previous commissions or projects - what doesn't get used for something sensible will eventually help keep us warm. The only things that I had to go out and buy specially were the draw runners (8 sets hurt my wallet quite bad) and one sheet of 6 mm MDF.

Hi peter! Good to hear about the dc setup.. I'm looking forward to seeing a video about it.. ery curious, cause i got the same problem with my setup and in a real need for a 3rd ctl or a setup like yours.. Space is my problem so preffer your setup hoping to see it quickly!! Thanks rick

I hope to have something fairly soon. I have shot about half the video and am waiting for some new parts. In the meantime I have some other video work to complete. I love my CTL 26 (my review of it is one of my most popular videos) but I am, like many, unable to afford a second machine of this quality. Therefore it makes sense to find a way of maximising the current investment.

I will work as fast as I can.
