Kapex or not?

These were little cuts, Tom. The tracksaws are too big.

For long cuts, I just score with a utility knife, break, score again and snap. I do use the back of a guide rail for my straight edge. They grip the rock nicely.

Without my trusty CT by my side, my fleece would be white as snow...

I needed 24 12"x12' x1/2" pieces of drywall. Stacked 6 12' sheets, cut through the top three deep enough to mark the 4th, with the 55. Hooked to the CT no dust at all and very fast to do.

Whether Kapex or not? as original question asked.....my experience has been average in some aspects. Out of the box, no allen key, lasers waaay out, dust extraction poor. The crown extension does not fit in either the left or right side v groove correctly. Might have to grind it down somehow. Sent that attachment back. Got the extension table for the left as the right side was too high. I levelled up the left side to be level with the Kapex bed at the v groove with some washers. Average dust extraction, so I got the bigger hose. Still poor, heaps being tossed out the back and over the table. After reading various website reviews about the Kapex dust extraction being extremely good I am very disappointed here. I even tried a different bigger vac. Gone from the midi to the ct26, then shortened the hose to try to get it to suck up more dust. Not much improvement there either. Am at a loss as to why everyone says the DC is so good? I've checked the hoses, vacs and the Kapex, no blockages so can't see why. People say the dc is great for it so I assumed there would be almost no dust spewing out the back so am very disappointed with that aspect. I still spend time cleaning up a fair bit.
On the plus side the cut quality is excellent. The angle setting and bevels are great, and the positive stops are very good. Swivels easily side to side for me. The trenching is a cool feature but I wonder if it could be better. The extra tool for angles is sweet and handy, works well. Also the tossing out the back of small offcuts was rather frightening at first, until I remedied it by making a auxiliary fence. That was scary seeing pieces whizz off.. I enjoy using the Kapex, but just take what the promotional material says now with a grain of salt and try not to be disappointed when the results don't match the marketing hype.

Nice. Did it dull the blade very quickly?

Not at all. When I cut cement board with the TS I get about 100 feet of cut before the blade has to be exchanged.

well not sure if i got 2 lemons ,i am a carpenter for 20 years now have used my share of miter saws and own a few
I have had 2 kapex saws first one was not very good it would grind ,second one with about 8 hours on it had to go and get rebuilt now i have a new saw that has been repaired ,sometimes when we cut small pieces it will send them flying i know the issue with this and refuse to install a sub fence pain in the but have a few others without sub fences nothing flies one of my guys almost lost a finger because of this ,now it sits we are a trim crew we install lots of trim ,my guys grab other saws, called festool on a number of occasions to be honest i really don't think they have a clue ,i have actually worked with a couple other companies to help develop a couple of products ,i was lucky enough to get a prototype it has worked worry free for 15 years ,just a dangerous saw in my opinion that needs some work to take it from  the home handyman level  to a professional level

The mechanical issues are very abnormal based on what I know. I'd also like to see a demonstration of your other complaints .. video possible? I can only assume I use mine very differently to you and your team, but your description go the issue(s) isn't specific enough for me to understand.

The KAPEX is certainly not a "handyman" level tool in price or features.

Which brand / model saws are you now using you feel are superior to the KAPEX?

Kev.
