Hello Festool owners. I'm creating my first poll here so please bear with me. I don't own a SCMS and would get the Kapex if it came to the US. I would like to hear from others and then use this data to hopefully encourage Festool to bring it to the US. Thanks for voting.

There are many additional Festool tools I'd like to buy because they will help me accomplish what I want to do.  The Kapex will help me accomplish what I NEED to do.

I'm on Bob's waiting list.

Dan.

I'm a general contractor that does a fair amount of trim work, I already own 2 good scms, so Kapex would have to be priced right for me to buy. I think Per said on another site, his (and my) intrest in this saw is to keep the clients home clean, that has real value. I do queation sales in the US based on price alone, I'm sure that will be one steep pricetag.

I agree with Brice. I'm in the exact same boat (GC with 2 SCMSs already). The price point is going to mean everything. I've looked at all the pictures and the videos of the Kapex. Sure seems nice, but the only thing about it that would tempt me to get one is the dust collection. Being that most of the molding I work with is at least 14 feet long, I'm not set up inside all that much anyway.

I tend to think Festool is going to have a hard time selling big numbers of this product in the US when the competition from Makita, Hitachi, Bosch, etc is quite good and at, most likely, far lower price points.

If this thing hits the US market with a price tag of ~$700, I'll get one without question. Anything higher, and I'll most likely pass on it.

14"-16" stock I cut outside to manageable sizes with a handsaw, then inside.

If the Kapex is $700 is will be me  ;D I think it will be twice that :(

I saw it advertised for 700.  But that is in England.  >:(  At today's rate that's $1,361.58.  Not including tax, title, delivery, etc.

I would sure like to have one.  i already have a Hitache 8-1/2" scms which i would have to unload first.  My problems with Hitachi are:
#1  Dust.  It does have dust chute, but a lot escapes.
#2  The way it is mounted with the slides, it just akes up way too much space.  i have to set it so far from the wall, i lose too much floor space.
it looks as if Festool has solved both problems.  i am anxious to find out the pricetag.

Right now I have a 12" Dewalt DW708 SCMS, 10" Hitachi CMS and a Delta 12" RAS. So at this moment I would not know where this item would fit in my shop as a needed tool, I did say "at this moment"...

Hmm.. £669 in April for the UK market, much less money then I expected for 47lbs. of Festool  :).
Heavier than my 12" Makita scms.. Looking forward to see the coming reviews, I'm sure it's more like a precision instrument as the others in the Festool lineup..

If you think the Kapex is heavy, my Bosch 4410L with the stand adapter weighs 75lbs!  (I weighed it.)

Dan.

;D That's indeed on the limit of a onehand carry-on..!
I really like the feel of the newer Bosch series scms'es, but will stick with my 4 year old Makita some more. Hasn't let me down yet..
Thankfully I have a local Festool outlet nearby, and are definately going to test the Kapex when it arrives after easter here in Norway  ;)

True, but few things sell for the "exchange rate" here in the US.  Look at the Domino pricing here and there...joe

So what are they selling for there in US dollars?

You might want to check out my analysis of prices of Festool items in the UK and USA to predict the US cost of the Kapex at http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=158.msg2881#msg2881. This was part of an earlier Kapex-related thread, and my prediction was US$ 980-1000.

My guesstimate was in the $1,000 to $1,100 range.  If it comes in at less than $1,000, it will FLY off the shelves.  (And, certainly onto my shelf.)  You heard it here first.

Regards,

Dan.
