kapex price went down

So I check on my local Festool dealer's website every week or so, just to keep the dream alive Anyway today I noticed that the kapex had come down in price! not sure how much, I think maybe 100 bucks or so? it's now a shade over 1,500 -

Ya! almost within range! so then I check on the UG stand..... Doh! it's gone up in price! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I can't win

I have to do something fairly soon, the electronic readout on my Milwaukee is beginning to flicker.

tell ya what, I'll buy two kapex's, keep one and send the other one down to you in exchange for a copemaster.

I wish it were that easy! prices are still less in the states, I don't know why because our Dollar exchange is almost at par. Then there's the duty/fees/taxes/tarriffs etc. at the border.

Na, I have a large crown job coming up- 557', over 50 copes  to do. I was just tryin to figure out how many copes I've done this year so far, but ? it's in excess of 300. This is why I'm looking for the copemaster machine.

Seems, to me anyway, a bit too high for a used Kapex, but, your mileage may vary.

Thanks GreenGA, up here that'd be a pretty good price. The shipping and border fees would negate any price advantage though, as I live waaaay out on the edge of Canada. Well almost, I'm two miles from the Pacific lotsa rain!! (wetest summer in 50 years, I haven't taken out the lawn sprinklers yet)

My local Festool dealer has factory recon'd kapex saws now and then for a few hundred less as well.

Alan, you can google the copemaster site, it gives you a pretty good idea of what it does. The little video on that site doesn't work on my computer (its old) but I think it will work on newer laptops.
I'm a bit surprised that someone hasn't yet come up with a simple cad/cam thing to do this.

The copemaster machine is currently out of production, however a newer version is being designed. Available date is as yet unknown. The original price was 2295 but the new one is suggested at 1495.

Returning you now to FOG type conversations.......

I might just say what the heck, the universe will bring me lotsa business this fall, so I can spend the money on a kapex now! soon as my wife says it's ok. LOL

I do not know how close you are to the border, but you can get a US shipping address in Blaine WA ( cost between $10 and $20), order over the Web, which is tax free. Pick it up and bring it across the border, there is no duty I checked, you will have to pay HST but you have to pay it up here anyway. With the US dollar the way it is you can save up to $300. I am probably going to do this, although this opens up supporting your local dealer debate, but the savings I could buy another tool.

Dunno for sure, I was at the dealers on July 21 buying a sander, and the price was still ? high 15's? 16's?  not sure I don't remember exactly.  When I checked the other day, it was down to $1,501.50

I was trying to figure out which lever to turn to get the kapex to "tilt" it wasn't obvious to me, but I'm sure it's a clever setup. I'm a little concerned over the slight "scraping" feel when I move the saw, but that might just be the demo on the floor.

There's a flip lever at the top of the Kapex that locks/unlocks the bevel setting.  The light scraping in normal.

The scraping issue with some of the original Kapex units in the US/Canada was quickly identified and fixed within the first six months roughly. There's no need for concern about this problem. If you get the Kapex and decide you don't like it for whatever reason, take it back for a refund in the first 30 days, no questions asked.

As for the various controls, check out this official video or one of the many other videos on YouTube which demonstrates it in use. There is also a page on our website which shows all of the features and where they're located on the saw.

Thanks Shane! that's the video I was looking for earlier today. I knew there was a clever lever to do the tilt.

I started the downward green slide last year, I needed some way to cut an angle- and I'd seen the TS55, and so at my lunch break I ran into the next city (15 miles) and bought the saw. It earned it's keep on that job, and several jobs since. I've got a few extra tracks now as well.
Subsequent to this, in January I got the CT26, June the RAS, early July the domino, and later in July my wife got me a 150 sander
so I'm hooked on the green.

When I get the kapex there will be no taking it back. It's ideal for my finishing business, and I know that new saw's take a bit of time to get  used to I'm not worried about this saw.

I guess I'll have to forget all about how to calculate my angles, as the kapex has that angle finder gadget, so no thinking involved! LOL

Not sure what's after the kapex/stand, maybe a 1400 router? the dream goe's on.....

Rick, with Festool, everything is for a reason. The reason for a 30mm arbor is to reduce blade deflection. That's one of the many reasons the Kapex is the most precise SCMS on the market. If the arbor was smaller, like other saws, the blade would be more prone to wobble.

European brand -->> European standards. 30 mm is a standard arbor size on this side of the pond, and here it is very easy to get.

I don't even bother looking for 30mm bore blades for mine ( there is a good selection available in the US now, not at a box store), I just take them to a local tool and die shop to have them re-bored.  Cost me 7.50 per blade.

I think I have 5 blades for it now.  I hope the new 60t stock blade is better then the old design.  It cut great, just lost it's edge fast, even after a good sharpening.

Oh, Mr.Mac, just buy the dang saw.  You are going to be mad when you get it, because to waited so long.

The scraping is not normal. My saw did not scrape under daily use for the first 7 months or so. The handle/lever was not strong enough to deal with the constant change in miters. Festool did send me a replacement kit, but the scraping was still there. I did modify the new handle/lever by using some very small pieces of HDPE, on the horns of the handle/lever where it contacts the catch. I also used the old spring plate instead of the new one in the replacement kit. The old plate did not have any grooves near the end where it contacts the lever. This way when you depress the lever the catch would lift just high enough to clear the miter scale.

This mod has been working fine for the last 2 months, no scraping.

This is my fourth SCMS, and this by far is the best saw I have used for finish work...
