Kreg,
I understand!  The Kapex has presented some mysteries.
If you happen to find time to go to Atlanta, give us a report.
Thanks,
Matthew

I just got off the phone with Lester seconds ago and this  is true new - spring plate and handle.  No one hear as seen the new handle and spring though. My guess is that it will allow a tad more clearance, eliminating any scraping.
Bob

bob, if the new spring plate design has fixed the scraping issue, why is there a need for a new handle, that sort of contradicts that the spring plate has corrected the problem doesn't it? - sean

Well, on my saw the new spring plate fixed the stiff turning problem but created a new problem: when the saw is not in a miter detente and I lock the miter lock the saw can easily be moved, especially if it is set to a position just outside of a miter detente. I think the tolerance is too small  .2mm space when unlocked. Also the amount the plate graps onto the miter scale is small requiring a tremendous amount of tension.
I have given up on the saw and reboxed it. It goes back tomorrow and I will spend the money on a fully outfitted 1400 router and mft3 table. I will soldier on with my saw buck until one of these manufacturers steps up and makes an excellent scms.

I agree 100% this is the biggest event of the year.  who knows why they were not their.  maybe the did not want to get bombarded with questions about the KAPEX!

that is my take on it, i believe there would be tons of questions about the kapex and with the various issues it has i do not think they have all the answers yet - sean

i think they have the answers afterall it has been 2 months and they are very intellegent.  I have talked to many others across the country and most of them have problems.  one gentleman has gone through 4 already.  and many have taken them back and will wait till the problems are fixed 100%  once the saw has been reengineered and the verrsion comes out,  then they should buy.

that is my take.

I don't think their will be another version. I'd expect Festool will resolve the issues with the current model and make sure all saws shipped are within specification. Festool prides themselves on quality and make test cuts with EACH tool before shipment. I understand their was an issue with the KAPEX and they will resolve it.

I'd love to get my hands on one of those returned KAPEX's.... I truly need a miter saw upgrade

"an" issue is an understatement, there were several issues with the saw.  you make me think of a question, i wonder what Festool does do with all the saws that are returned with defects? - sean

companies make changes,  they took the mft and made the new mft3 with some great changes.  same with the atf saw that became the ts55,  and yes that is a good questions as to what are they doing with all those returned saws.  I wonder

Festool will most likely donate them to woodworking schools which is what they do with any tool returned.

i just got done cutting about 2000lf of pine base, shoe, backer and chair rail.  and almost all the cuts had tear out in the back, I think it is the blade that comes with the saw because I never had that problem with a forrest blade, has any one else seen this?,  I was going to buy a forrest blade for the saw,, but I am taking back kapex #4 1/2 (had to switch the plate on #4 so that makes it a 1/2

I just put a Chopmaster on my Kapex, have not tried it out yet, but all my other saws used the Chopmaster so I'm expecting smooth-as-glass cuts from it with the Kapex.  Were you using the 60-tooth universal stock blade that comes with the Kapex for your project?

From the test cuts I did make using the stock Kapex blade I did not notice any tear out, but for trim work I would either use the Festool fine-tooth, 80 tooth blade or similar blade, would not use the stock blade for trim.  Sorry to hear you've had so many problems, I understand what you are going through as I was in the same boat - the last Kapex I received is working perfectly thus far and I'm really pleased with it.

I have had a Kapex for about a month -- I delayed buying because of some of the scraping issues. I shared my concern with the dealer -- before shipping the saw he made some test cuts and all was well. When the saw arrived, I tested it and all was well.  I have been using the saw more the past week and all is not well. This morning when I went to move the miter to the right there was a loud scraping sound and it became difficult to move at all.  The saw had been sitting outside in the shade in about 90 degrees. Called the dealer who was as surprised as me ... waiting for a Festool call back.

well I took back #4 today and left it at that.  will wait awhile before I look into it again.  sorry to have to do that, it does have nice features that I will miss.  but as of now, it is not worth it.

I just got done making a mobile station for my Kapex.  I attached the saw to the removeable top and locked the wheels to see how stable it would be.  I've used the saw a handful of times the last few weeks  without issue.  I tried to swing it today and it started scrapping.  It got so bad that I could barely move it.  This is my second saw and it looks like I'll be moving onto number three.  I called Festool and left a message tonight.  Like so many that have posted here regarding issues with the Kapex this whole thing is very discouraging.  I'm on the fence as to whether I should just send the saw back and move on and find something different.

see here is another one that it was okay for a little bit, and then bam..... scraping.  just thinkk how many other saws are out their that have been sold and have not been used that much and the scraping will began

as I have mentioned I have gone through 4.  take it back, in my oponion and wait till the problem is totally solved.  like retooling the line.
