Kapex question

Hi All, can anyone tell me the largest size crown you can cut with the kapex in the nested position?  thanks

MY crown experiences only go to the 3 5/8".  Is there a specific size you are trying to use?  Is that a 45/45 or a 38/52?

I think you can cut up to 6 5/8" in the special cutting setting.

Steve, you've been fairly vocal about a lack of Festool info.  To some degree I'd agree with you.  However, Festool USA has been making more info, easier to access than ever.  Bottom line, people are lazy about looking for info on the net, case in point, the max crown size is listed right on the Festool USA product page.... [tongue]

I believe that Festool USA always had the specs for the Kapex including maximun crown cutting nested against the fence.Imperial and metric.

It does on the main Kapex page. When you look at the accessories page and pull up the Crown Stop it doesn't. If you're new to Festool and do a lot of Crown, you most likely are wanting to add the accessory Crown Stops... it would be a natural assumption to expect that information to be listed with them.  Yes, he could look around more and find the spec of the Kapex, but he still might come back asking do the Accessory Crown Stops help by extending the base out so more of the blade can be used when cutting.

So you are saying that the specs on the crown stop should state the maximum cutting capacity?
The crown stop does not dictate what you can and cannot cut,the saw model does.
Here in NA the Kapex has a special cutting position that allows cutting crown against the fence up to 6 5/8".But in Europe and maybe other countries,they also offer a stripped down model that does not have that feature.So someone could really get confuse to how much they can cut by reading crown stop specs.
I think that if you need to know what your saw can do,you need to read the specs FOR THE SAW not what the accessories can do.

Cutting crown in the nested position is the amateur way to do it IMO.Lay it down and you can cut some really, really tall crown [smile]

I will politely disagree with the comment that cutting crown nested is the amateur method, but will agree with the statement that you can cut larger crown lying flat.

The nested method eliminates the need to know the spring angle.  It reflects the natural - yet upside down - orientation of the molding on the wall.

I use both methods, but if the crown based on its size can be cut in the nested position, then I use that method.

I have cut 7'' crown no problem, of course locked in the extended position. I also prefer to cut my crown always nested, but I say whatever works for you.
