Kapex Saw- Dust Hose Connection

I want to connect upgrade my dust hose connection between my Kapex saw and a CT22 dust extractor. I understand that going to a 36mm hose for the saw will enhance the duct collection capability. That said I find that I am constantly changing between the saw and  dust extractor and another sander (or other tool). So I was thinking about connecting two hoses to help simplify this task.

However the standard 36mm hose is $200 (ouch). Noting that I don't need a very long hose this seems like overkill to me. When I shopped at Woodcraft, it was suggested that I purchase the Industrial Cleaning Set (#454 770) which cost only (only) $106.00 which includes a 50mm hose about 8 feet long. But I am not sure this will hose will fit the "Y"connector I will need to also connect the 27mm hose to the vacuum.

Has anyone set their saws/dust extractor up with mulitple hose?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated>

Best regards to all!

welcome the fog.

200 dollars seams very dear . i would reconmend the cleaning set with the 36mm hose and the systainer 5 .

i prsume you are sanding on a bench etc rather than far away so a short piece of hose would work for you. i would put the y spitter on the ct22 end of the hose and a 36mm hose to the kapex and a 27mm to the sander. i dont know if the suction would be great enough to run both at the same time. you might need a blast gate or 2.
you probable wouldnt need to get the anti static hose for the kapex

JPF, you're mistaken about the $200 price. That's for the 7 meter hose. The standard 3,5 meter hose costs $135. Not cheap either, but not as bad as $200.

JPF,

Definitely get the antistatic hose.  I have the universal cleaning set.  I used the D36 non-antistatic hose on a Bosch miter saw hooked to my ct22. After an extended cutting session the non-anti static hose looked like a fuzzy caterpillar.  Now I use a long D36 antistatic hose on a boom arm hooked to my Kapex. Works MUCH better.

IMO, a better option would be one of the cleaning sets with a D36 antistatic hose.

Regards.

As noted above, the $200 D36 hose is 7m.  And, yes, a hose of that length may very well be more than you would want or need for your Kapex.  However, if you have other tools that may benefit from a larger diameter hose (TS saw, router, planer) you might consider getting either the 7 meter ($200) or the 5 meter ($160) D36 hose along with another set of fittings (Rotating Connector and Reducing Sleeve) so you can cut the longer hose down to make two D36 hoses, one just for your Kapex and another for your other tools.

All of the Festool hoses will fit into the Festool "Y" Connector, since all have a vacuum-end fitting (called a "Rotating Connector") that will fit into either the vacuum or a branch of the "Y" Connector.  You will notice that all the D27 and D36 hoses are shipped with a vacuum-end fitting (Rotating Connector) on one end and a tool-end fitting (Reducing Sleeve) on the other, while the larger D50 hoses come with the vacuum-end fittings on BOTH ends.

JPF, in the Dark Ages of early 2006, a few days after I bought my first TS55 in combo with a CT22, I decided to also buy a Festool cleaning set. I was that impressed with how quiet the CT22 could be.

Lucky for me when I drove to my dealer to pick up the cleaning set he was in conversation with a well-known custom furniture maker, who had started using Festo in Europe. I mentioned I wanted a cleaning set. The customer suggested that I pay the slight up-grade for the anti-static 36mm hose, then use it with my TS55 routinely. At his suggestion I also bought a cover plate for the TS55.

Flash forward a few years. I was lucky enough to have used Kapex on trips to Europe before they could be sold in the USA. My friends in Europe were mostly using short 36mm AS hoses. They would buy the 36mm x 7m AS hose and an extra set of connectors. Typically they used a 36mm x 2.5m AS hose to connect the Kapex to a CT, leaving them a 36mm x 4.5m AS hose for cleaning.

In my shop I have 2 Kapex permanently bolted in place. Each has a typical miter saw dust collection shroud behind it at bench level. That is connected to the main plant dust collection system with a 4" (100mm) hose. At first both of those Kapex was connected from its dust port to a dedicated CT22 with one of the 36mm x 2.5m AS hose. I wanted to save the time it takes to change bags, so we experimented with various ways of using the plant DC system to extract from the Kapex. For me the solution is a venturi-like accelerator to increase the velocity of the DC located between the main DC duct and the short length of 36mm AS hose. That accelerator works best with a minimum length of 36mm hose. This is not a problem for be because the DC duct is high above the benches so the accelerator and blast gate can be supported by the wall. The 36mm hose is flexible enough the Kapex can work as designed.

Many of my friends simply use the 36mm x 3.5m AS hose with their Kapex and do not bother with an extra dust shroud.

I had a similar problem as that of the OP.  In 2008 I bought a number of Festool sanders and the CT22 with boom arm.  I also bought the Kapex, which is bolted to a workbench.  The sanders seem to work best with the 27mm hose because it is flexible and does not get in the way, but the Kapex needs a larger diameter hose.  Instead of investing in a 36mm Festool hose I bought the length of hose I needed from the local Lowe's hardware depot since it seems to be the same as the Festool 36mm except that it is blue and black and much lower in cost.  I added the Festool ends to make it fit my tools.  At present I keep the 27mm hose on the boom arm and use it in the normal fashion with the sanders.  For the Kapex, I unplug the plug-it cord and 50mm hose from the front of the CT22 and plug the the Kapex power cord and 50mm end of the Lowe's hose to the CT22.  The other end of the 36mm Lowe's hose stays attached to the Kapex.  I have a home shop and not a production business, but this solution works well for me.
