Kapex Setup

The new Kapex (very large box) came home today. I always read the manuals before I start setting up a new complex tool, but there are usually some "nuggets" of information from people who have been through the process before.

I did buy the roller stand, Midi vac, and 36mm hose.

Any suggestions?

Is it fair to assume that you downloaded the supplemental manual for the Kapex.  If not:  http://www.festoolusa.com/media/pdf/Kapex-KS120-Supplemental-Manual.pdf

Have fun and cut some wood.  Get used to cutting and letting the blade come to a stop while the blade is in the lowered position.  Draw some lines, line up the lasers to them and then cut.  See if the cut matches the line.  If not, if you think you will use the lasers, then adjust the lasers the way you want - splitting lines / left edge / right edge, etc.  Do the multiple step to check for square that is in the supplemental manual.

Did you get the allen key for adjusting the laser out of the foam packing?

Have Fun!!!

Like peter said, make sure you let the blade stop before lifting the head of the saw, especially on bevels with small cutoffs...  The more you use your saw the more you'll love it.

Found the Allen wrench for the laser. It was loose in the box.

Assembled the roller stand in spite of the manual's extremely limited instructions and got the Kapex mounted. I wish Halfinchshy would have done a Kapex video. His stuff is great. I think Barbie's Dream Pool 500 plastic part kit had better instructions.

Time for a nap!

Will adjust, if necessary, the laser later.

I did print out the supplemental manual. Nice.

congrats.
im sure paul wouldlove to be in a position to do a kapex video.

Adjusted the lasers. Seems almost tacky to have to poke holes in the laser adjustment covering. Got the laser lines adjusted per the manual. Not sure I like them where I ended up, but they are parallel to the cut lines and stay that way as the head is lowered. The 90 degrees trial  cut was perfect. Ran out of time but will do 45 degree and 30 degree trial cuts Friday.

Agreed, it really bothered me too. I assume it's a part you could order form Festool if it bothers you that much.

As Dave said, the more you use this saw and put it through it's paces the more you fall in love and wonder how you could ever use any other saw.

Now that you have them perfectly aligned a little tweaking and you can place them were you want in relation to a mark..... split the line , remove the line , outside the line......

You don't have to poke holes through the sticker.  Gently lift far enough for access, make adjustments, lay sticker back in place.  No holes are needed

I have just tested mine with the 4-cuts test.
-0.046° ! Not bad I think  [smile]

Did the test cuts and the saw is accurate within the scope of any measurement tools I use for woodworking.

The dust collection has been what I would estimate at 98% or better. The Midi with the 36mm hose sits under the roller stand. It's a tad cumbersome to move so I'll build a platform for it to sit on.

I've used it a couple of times for "real" work and I like it already.
