I would like to replace the hold down clamp on my miter saw with a Kapex one but don't know if it will fit.

My current saw uses a 16mm post. So if someone who has a Kapex would do me a favour and check the diameter of the mounting post I would appreciate the kindness.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Jerome,

You may be in luck. The lower part of the post is indeed 16mm dia for about a 46mm length, and then goes to about 18mm dia. However, there is also a flat near the bottom, and then an undercut. See photos. Let me know if you need more dimensions of these features, or better photos.  : (

Regards, Dick

Thanks very much Dick,  it looks as if there is a wider section above the first indent. Could you confirm where the 16mm section is? My hold down fits into a 16mm socket

Do you think the Kapex one does?

Yes, the Kapex one does fit into a 16mm socket. The reason that it "looks" larger above the undercut is because there is a flat on the lower section, which is difficult to see against the black background in the photos.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words ;) so here goes

The Kapex bar is a much more complicated shape than my Makita one so there are two sizes I'd like confirm and one length that could be useful to know.

Sorry to be a bother and thanks for your time

OK, here are some better measurements -- consider everything approximate -- it's late here!

first diameter = 16.2mm  --  flat to diameter = 13.1mm  --  length ~ 9.3mm
undercut #1 diameter = 9.9mm  --  length ~ 9.6mm
next diameter = 16.9mm  --  length (including chamfers) ~ 7.7mm
undercut #2 diameter = 16.0mm --  length ~ 19.7mm
next diameter = 17.8mm  --  length ~ 7.3mm
next diameter = 18.0mm  --  length ~ 97.2mm

That is wonderful and thanks very much for your time and help, it looks as if I could reduce the 16.9x7.7 down to 16mm. So all I have to now is order a hold down

Jerome I've got my old ls1013 sitting next to my new kapex in the workshop. Do you want me try try swapping the hold down over to see how it fits ? Guessing you have an ls1013 or similar

Hi Joiner

That would be great from the info I've got so far it looks promising. Not a perfect fit but not too much modification needed.

As you might have seen from my sig I've got an LS1212 but I guess that most Makita's use the same hold down if yours looks like mine. Mine is here http://festoolownersgroup.com/member-projects/20mm-hole-on-a-96mm-grid-system-(mft-top-style)/msg240791/#msg240791

Sorry for the delay in replying but I've been busy making a mount for my new Workshop supplies 36" drum sander.

Hi Jerome , just nipped up the workshop. The kapex clamp almost fits in the Makita holes ,it's probably 1/2 a mm wider. I didn't want to force it in but I'm sure you could widen the holes or sand the pin down to fit.

On the kapex it drops in then you rotate it to lock it. My Makita clamps are held in by a wing nut.
