Kapex special cutting position?

I just purchased a Kapex and after playing with it for a few days, I have some questions.  When using the special cutting position, the rubber chip deflector seems to get hung up on the work piece.  When using it in that set-up, do other users remove the chip deflector?

I am currently in the process of designing a second floor addition that will have some 5.5" clear bevel siding that will be applied over some 2x2, thus canting it out from the building at approximately 17o.  The outside corners will be mitered.  Thus I either need to cut the material standing up and on a miter( which at that angle will only be 5.25" tall [133.6mm for those across the pond] the Kapex looks to be able to handle that depth, but the chip deflector and rear guard seem to be getting in the way.)  Or, I need to cut it laying flat and on a bevel ( I like the handy stops the Kapex has for 45o bevels, but I dislike having to remove the upper portion of the fence all the time.)  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Another question:  Is your kapex base perfectly flush?  On the unit that I purchased, the center seems to be slightly higher than the ends.  I have checked it with various straight edges(none with exacting tolerances) and found the right side to be the worst.  A little disheartening on a $1300 machine.  Also, the lasers seem to be slightly out.  I'll let the laser issue slide because of jostling in transit form Germany to here, but come on I would expect the table to be right on.

You can adjust the lasers to get them perfect.  Mine have stayed perfect for 2 years.

My tables are flat.  If yours are off enough to matter, I would take it up with Festool.
My 45* cuts were off by a half degree and it was a pain to fix, but that is another matter.

I have tried the special cutting position just to see what it was, but never actually used it.  But I found the dust thingy caught when I cut a 4x4.  I just ignored it and all seemed well.

If you have a ton of those cuts to make, go buy a simple 12" non sliding saw.

Take the rubber boot off.  I don't like taking small cuts off in that position.

My table was a tiny bit higher too.  But my world is so crooked and out of square that it doesn't seem to matter.  In fact I usually get perfect miters.  So if the table was level my miters would probably be off.

I've used the special cutting position from time to time.  I do take the boot off.  It's a funky cutting position but you get used to it and it works well.  I did have one thing happen.  I was cutting a small piece of base at a 45 and it actually lifted the base off the table and messed up the cut.  Apparently the teeth are cutting up during the last part of the stroke.  The hold down will stop that from happening.
