I was going to get the Fastcap stand/cart for my new Kapex and started to think...mmmmm
Im 56 with a torn ACL and MCL on my left knee, so lifting a saw AND cart would get old fast or i would need to take them apart, which is not a big deal....doing mostly cabinetry and installs.
Saw will need to be portable.

What do most of you use or have found to be the best set up.
Thanks for your help

I turn 56 this coming Tuesday [smile]

I don't have any issues from a functional perspective ... I went Festool UG cart and wings. It just works well [wink] [big grin]

My Kapex only gets moved a couple of times a year. It mostly resides downstairs. Consequently, I modified a portable Milwaukee stand that I had used for a couple of their sliders.

Turning the front crank levers about 3 turns, releases the saw from the stand for easy portability.

I made a support plate from 1/2" ply that attaches the saw to the clamping rails. 1/2" ply keeps things very lightweight.

An integral extension wing on the LH side holds a tape, several pencils, a square and provides room for holes to store an extra clamp and the hex tools needed to adjust the Kapex. An extension wing on the rear, holds extra zero clearance inserts.

When I first got my kapex I used the dewalt stand because I had one already. When I could afford it I got the ug stand and wings. The wings are not as sturdy as the dewalt stand if you are using 2x6 or bigger but the wings are much better for accurate repeated cuts. The stops on the dewalt have too much play to be accurate. Also the wings support the workpiece along its length whereas the dewalt stand only has one support that will need to be moved when using different lengths of timber.

We all agree you spend a lot for the tool and the added accessories for them, and I think for the most part we don't look back in spending the money.  The Kapex stand is one of those items.  Works great, take only less than 10 seconds to be set up and maybe another minute to add the extensions wings and level them that can extent to over 8'  on each side.  It wheels great, stores in a very little footprint - and as I said we don't look back, and this stand is one of those items.

Agree 100% the stops on the Dewalt are poor when compared to the rest of the stand.  That said, I've been fostering a little idea to make some Festool inspired wings to address these issues you point to here which I believe will be a more affordable and equally accurate solution.  Of course I'd love to upgrade to the Kapex with the under frame and trimming extensions but will have to keep striving to justify that capital expenditure! [eek]

If money isn't an object I'd have to agree go with the solution which is attracting the rave reviews and I can see you are very satisfied with your Kapex.  I guess I'm a little old fashioned and in a strange way probably enjoy struggling with something to finally make it work for a few bucks less than spend the extra dough to make life easy right off the bat!  [big grin]

Thanks for all the great input and ideas.
does anyone use the MTF 3 table for the kapex and the wings?  Just wondering how that solution is working in the field.

Right now will put a 16x8 trailer/workshop around.  but by the time i hook that to the 4 door f250 long bed it can be a bit much to move around in some areas here.  Im looking at move the tools to a large van so im think a smaller storage footprint would be good but am not sold 100 % on the idea.
I love our shop trailer. its all set up ready to go just plug it in. Im finding we are not pulling it more and more and hauling tools around in a truck, and I dont like that
Thanks again

The MFT3 is taller than the Kapex MFT, the legs on the wings would not reach the ground without some modification or extension added to them.

Right now, I'm using the Kapex MFT table with the Fastcap wings.  I haven't taken it out of the shop much, but I've moved it around the house a bit and it's pretty easy to set up.  The extensions are heavy and I love the stop on it (very precise for repeatable cuts).  The extensions are supported by tripods (upper hand, I think they call them?) which are pretty easy to adjust.  I'm not sure how they would do on unlevel ground, but they are independently adjustable.  The only complaint I would say is that every time you move the tripods (even if you accidentally kick it) you would need to readjust the extensions to be parallel to the Kapex fence and perpendicular to the blade.  I'm thinking of building supports into my walls to hold the extensions and only using the triods when I'm out of the shop.  Added bonus is that I would free up a ton of storage under the extensions which are currently being taken up by the tripods.

One last thing -- if you order the fastcap, make sure you ask for the adapters that fit the MFT.  most of the time you'll have them directly on the Kapex, but the MFT adapters are free (only a spacer and a longer bolt) and would alloy you to attach the extensions onto the MFT/3 for using with the TS55, etc when you need some extra support.

the ug kart is pretty good... i can see the benefit of both that and the dewalt stand as i have one of those also.

however i was putting the kapex away recently and got half way and realised id not clipped the small part in propperly. it dropped out. i bent down to pick it up. the kapex tipped back a bit and the wheels shot away... ended up with the whole lot on the floor.... and it scratched the fridge door in the garage i was working in. that was a bad day..

for the op perhaps the dewalt stand would be a good idea. particularly with his knee problems.

Like others I started with Kapex on my old dewalt stand, worked ok but not ideal, especially if your moving it around alot. A few months later got the ug stand and wings, should have bought them when I first got the saw, very quick and easy to transport and set up. I can't see how any other set up could work better.

I think I have tried almost everything.  When I got the Kapex I also had the dewalt stand and used it.  It was ok, but not great.  I then got the FastCap wings and had great difficulty getting them to work.  But between the dewalt stand and the wings it was a PITA and took up a lot of space.  I finally gave up and got the UG stand - that was it.  Light, easy and simple - I would never go back.

sorry for the long time in between post.
I ended up getting  a MFT for Kapex and the Festool wings with the Multiblades connectors.
Oh and nobody warned be about getting systainer addiction. [embarassed] [smile] wow.... came on quickly and is hard to kick!  I place a order and before I get it ive already got another one started.

Thanks for everyones help

How easy is it to get the Kapex and UG out of a truck bed? Or, getting it into the truck bed?

I didn't get the UG stand I got the MTF Kapex table.
to me they both seem easy, a lot easier then the Bosch stand and 12 in saw.  1t off the Kapex seems a LOT lighter, plus it gives you places to pick it up, then the Bosch saw. the MTF table is easier for me to move around. folds up nice and neat, the wings come with a strap so they are easy to carry. All in all im very happy with the set up and the Multiblades connectors make it easy to use a nice big crown stop.
