Kapex

I read this on the Woodwork Forums, heres the link to the thread, Woodwork Forums, Kapex thread.  This is post #38 by tijy. He bought a Kapex but was very unhappy with the quality of his saw. He went through ten of them in an attempt to get one that worked right, without any luck. Finally he was refunded and compensate for his time. Festool then setup a meeting with tijy, below is his reply about that meeting.

hello again yes mate was a very succesful day on a dreary monday morning met two german guys one was in control of all worldwide sales and the other chap was the chief engineer for festool. Very nice people bit intense but german lol and perfect english. So chatted for a good while pointed out what I considered to be the faults and the listened and took notes and pictures of everything. Then came out the precision measuring equipment made in Japan by the way i noted. first the lasers he explained the tolerances to me then measured them on my machine a small silence ensued then a slight look of embaresement it was out by quite a bit. once checked and altered he told me in the factory they should never need adjusting. next the compound cut 1.5mm ish over 260mm he wasn't happy at all by now so few other things like scrapping noises and although he convinced me that the was no engineering problem with this noise i explained that most people would prob upgrade to this machine from dewalt makita etc which dont make scraping noises so psycologicaly it may put you of a bit.

So after a bit he pulled out a brand new machine freshly made in germany for me we tested it with a trench cut half way through i stopped he looked at me i looked at the saw he looked down to find the lasers all over the place he walked off rang germany and halted all production of the kapex until he could fix this problem he also reckons that the main fence is out of alighnment by a fraction which is causing errors on compound cutting any way 5 hours later i get the use of a full ct70 bench saw for a very long demo (?2000 cost) my money back and the german guy as nice as he is has a large large headache did feel sorry for him. The table saw is brilliant by the way although very pricy

Interesting.....

I've been following that as well. I wouldn't say his is an average experience. Kapex is still pretty much backordered here in Australia, I haven't seen any symptoms remotely resembling what happened to him.

I know nothing about Kapex except what I read here on FOG.  But I am impressed with Festool's efforts to get to the root of the problem with its product, and admitting they had one, and immediately communicating with their factory.

I spoke to someone at festool regarding a replacement part for my domino. I asked when the kapex was going to be available. He told me srping. A few issues were being worked out overseas and when that is done it will start shipping.
Got my replacement part for my domino in 2 days. Great service.

Stop torturing yourselves, it's horrible to watch but I can't look away.

Jake,

Don't fret. You can only shave 0.05mm off the end of a mitre with any reliability anyway. ;D

Rob

Sorry Dave,
That was a trifle low (funny but low). I will make it up to you though. I am, as we speak (I always speak as I type, so I can get the letters in the right order :))attempting to put together as comprehensive and fair evaluation of the Kapex as I can for the interest and edification of "those enquiring minds who want to know."

Regards,

Rob

No problem.  I should have added JUST KIDDING!! at the end of my quip.  Actually, I have been enjoying your posts and the goodr-natured ribbing going on re Kapex or rather the lack thereof for some.  I am not among those in North America who are waiting for a Kapex.  I don't foresee myself having enough use for one to justify its expense.  For the little bit of mitre trim I expect to do, I'll stick with my basic Hitachi CMS with a good blade.  And spend the difference elsewhere, such as my new HVLP spray system.
