Eight years ago, I volunteered to make 15 gun racks for my club. Pressure treated wood, 1X6 and 2X6 lumber.
At that time, I had a nice miter saw but it had no real dust collection. It also had to be backed away from a wall. Its accuracy was OK for rough carpentry, but inadequate for the high precision box work I like to do.
I had to drag the miter saw outdoors to use it and a mask was necessary. Clean-up was a big task.
I'm in the process of building 6 more racks as the club is expanding. With my Kapex (of many years), I can work indoors and not wear a mask. About 90% of the dust is collected and cuts are dead on. The saw is pushed back against the wall and the Festool dust collector sits under the Festool cart holding the Kapex. The large diameter shortened hose helps with the dust pick up. Clean-up is a minor task.
There are some tricks I learned the hard way. The most important is to let the saw blade come to a complete stop before lifting the head. This sharply reduces the risk if kickbacks. The other is to read the manual and the supplemental manual before cutting anything with the Kapex. Also, don't throw away the packing material before you locate the tiny allen wrench you need to adjust the lasers.
By the way, the Kapex is plenty accurate for my high precision box work.
