It looks like there was some fine dust in the grain and it created enough surface tension to prevent the clear coat to reach into the grain.

This seems to indicate that there was dust trapped in the grain of the doors. There is very little to no grain raised when using the General (Gel) stains because of the urethane added to the stain.

I would increase your overlap to 50%. In ideal circumstances (flat surface horizontally) if you are spraying a 6" wide oval at 6" away you will get a more consistent coverage.
