Hi guys just wondering for those that wear jobman or  Bjornklader trousers if any of you use the heavier duty rubber knee pads?

or the jobman equivalent.

Are they better than the standard type?

I'm close to pushing the button on a pair of trousers from one of these companies, so any feedback on the knee pads would be great.

If it helps i'm a site carpenter so always having to kneel etc. Ease of fitting not really an issue as once in they stay in till either the trousers have worn out or the knee pads LOL.

TIA  [big grin]

Like your self I am on my knees most of the time I got the new snickers knee pads  d30 last year I have gone thru a pair of trousers  and they are as good if not better then when I got the I highly recommend them

I have all three kinds of pads that bjornklader makes and find each have their own pros and cons.

The foam ones are very light and form well to the knee so they're very comfortable when walking around but I found that they're only good for intermittent kneeling. They are not very thick so the protection is limited and your knee only contacts a small area so after a few months that spot becomes very thin. I wear them if I will be on my feet mostly.

The rubber ones offer much more protection against punctures from  thing like nails or small pebbles but they are not very soft so after a while you will start to ache. They stay very flat and make the pants look and feel broad at the knee. The rubber is also very grippy making them difficult to set in the  pants. I wear these if I think I will do a moderate amount of kneeling that day.

The combination rubber and foam ones are very thick making them my choice for heavy kneeling. With the foam facing in you get the softness to keep you comfortable and the rubber will protect you from punctures. Being so thick is also a disadvantage if your  standing mostly as they can get a little uncomfortable if it's warm out. You will also notice them while driving.

My advise would be to order two pairs of foam and one pair of the combination pads.

They look interesting and i see on snickers direct they show 2 lengths, but no one seems to have the longer ones. Just wonder if they would fit the Bjornklader trousers.  ???

Thank you. The side profile pic really shows the difference between them. Something i will have to think about.

I kneel quite a bit when I'm doing trim work and really like the rubber Bjornklader pads. I like the medium profile compared to the super thick ones. However, most of my trim work is on carpeted surface or wood floors.

Well i bit the bullet and ordered a pair of carpenter ace trousers, along with 2 pairs of the normal type pads and a pair of the foam/rubber pads. They should be with me by thursday.  [big grin]

Cool, i was just thinking about the surfaces i kneel on. The current job i am on ( since February) is concrete/ brick/ tarmac (asphalt)
Previous jobs - schools, hospitals, town halls etc were also concrete. Cannot remember the last time i worked on timber floors. So think the rubber/foam pads will get used the most.  [eek]

I have worn Carhartt jeans for 38+years with knee pads pockets by a local seamstress. She rips open the leg on a side seam, sews on a double thick denim pocket with a flap over the top secured with 2" wide velcro, and then sews the leg back together. I have two Skillers pads in each knee, one is a soft foam pad, and the other has a harder plastic shell over the foam. These pants are very comfortable, very durable, and I always have my knee pads on, I do concrete for a living and these pants have been a godsend over the years.

Im looking at getting a set of these next. And some snikers floor laying trousers

My vote would go to Mascot; Jaca shorts long enough to take a knee pad, but so much cooler than trousers and Almeda for the odd time I'm outside all day. The knee is a much stiffer cordura than the rest which is a poly cotton. Pocket arrangement seems easiest to live with too. No green and blue option though!!!

Haven't used any of the ones you mentioned, but I thought I'd chime in about the pads I've been using.  I've got a set of Toughbuilt gelfit kneepads that I really like.  Fairly comfortable, enough so that I've gone to the store with em still on.  What makes them stand out to me is the replaceable covers of different types.  There's a hard plastic, a soft non-marring rubber, and then the cover that sold me on the system, the stabilizer, essentially a sole with gripper pads, the whole boot for the knee idea.

I find that the harder/tougher pads tend to pull on the waist line of my pants (pull my pants down) when kneeling. Plus they have what BBeam said with regards to driving.

I have the snickers flooring pants and really love them a lot, it seems the waist is higher which is essential to avoid serious butt crack. Being so happy with them I decided to get the 9191 xtr d30 knee pads but hate them as they pull the pants down on every bend. Switched back to the old flexi pads and all is good now. They seem to let the pants slide over the knees better.

However, I will get those blackladder pads as they are much larger and I can cut them to size, the old snicker pads are a bit too short.
