Kreg dust adapter

Ooh thanks for the reminder. I have that squirreled away in my Festool cleaning set somewhere...I used that Fein adapter in the past to use all the accessories from my Hoover vac.  [big grin]

I use the Fein adapters, both the straight flexible one and the stiffer stepped version.  Every one of my six Festool sanders has the stepped one left on them, just cut off the smallest step.

Had a little bit of time this morning waiting for some drywall mud to dry so I fired up the lath again to make a fitting to fit my new K5 Kreg and the new Ct36 I got a few weeks ago. I turned down a solid rod of 1 1/4 inch delrin a little bit to fit the Kreg. Then turned down the other end to fit nicely into the 27mm hose. Bored out the center to 3/4 of a inch. Always fun to make stuff like this.

Nice adapter!  I went the other way for my K3 and found a PVC elbow that will fit over the Kreg port. I just had to ream the inside of the elbow a bit. I made the double bend (two elbows glued together) to drop the hose down completely out of the way.

I have the K4 jig, and found a Bosch VAC003 adapter that I had on hand works well with the small hose I use most of the time.  I haven't tried the larger hose.

Maybe it works with the K5 too?

Seth's design gets the hose out of the way which would be nice.  But this adapter works OK too.

Forgive the poor-quality pix;  I hope they make sense.

Tom,

You wouldn't happen to have a part number for that adapter would you? I use a Fein Step adapter but it is long and cumbersome.

Thanks
Jack

Should be VAC003. It allows me to hook up to various smaller port tools I have, never tried the Kreg. Under $5 from Amazon if you're already buying something else.

Thanks Cochese;  you are correct on both counts.  I added that info and a link to my post.

Fwiw, I just used those models to have some 3D printed.

I got one from Shapeways and another from a local 3D printer owner through www.3dhubs.com  The Shapeways one in blue is pretty impressive. The locally printed one is in PLA and it's a bit rough, but it absolutely works.  The locally printed one was $11, picked up.  The Shapeways one was $38, shipped (~$5 shipping).

I wanted to try different suppliers/materials.  I got the Shapeways one in 27mm using their "Blue, strong and flexible, polished" color/material/prep choice.  I got the 35mm one from  3dhubs in just plain old blue PLA.  The Shapeways blue stuff is laser sintered, the 3dhubs was extruded.  You can definitely tell the difference.  Is it worth $22 extra for the finish?  Probably not as they both do the same job.

If you want perfect then I'd suggest Shapeways.  If you want cheap and local then 3dhubs is worth considering.  The only issue with 3dhubs is your quality/service is only going to be as good as what the local printer provides.  Mine was, I think, just a high school kid with the printer at his folk's house.  Never met him, I picked it up from the front porch.  Which is fine, but I could see where there's potential for problems.

Either way, the whole process was pretty easy.  Just uploaded the model to the services, made my selections and waited for delivery/pickup.

That laser sintered nylon is pretty nice (but also expensive). It has the same porosity as wood, so you can glue it with PVA glue, and you can glue it to wood! I'm considering using it to 3D print some of the internal blocking for my guitars. In fact, I'm thinking about even using it for the full beveled armrest and leaving it exposed. Once pore filled and lacquered, it should look just like ebony.

I just went to home depot and bought this for 10 bucks. It just popped right into my 27mm hose and the kreg adapter. Now, I'd suggest you get eccentric like me ("Can I help you with something sir?" "I don't think so, but thanks.") and bring the hose and adapter with you to double check, but I was pretty happy to find out that something so off the shelf worked.

$10!!!!!  [eek]

I use the Fein adapter from Amazon with my Kreg K5 and CT Mini and it works great for only $5.99.  [big grin]

Wow.  In less than 2 years that adapter went from $5.99 to $96.31 + $7.50 shipping.  Am I reading something wrong?  I'm not very familiar with Amazon.

I have a 3D printer and can make anyone who wants one of these for $15 shipped CONUS.

Let me know.

A piece of clear PVC tube 30mm OD 150mm long with 4 cuts 25mm deep on one end works for me.  The plain end slips into the Kreg dust port and the cut end is pushed into the Festool 26mm hose.  More than enough to keep the swarf clear.  This adapter then sits next to the drill bit in the out feed container when not in use.  The Kreg is mounted to it's own "T" frame and a worm drive hose clamp screwed 170mm from the Kreg dust port to act as a support for the dust extraction hose keeps everything in place.  The tabs on the swivel are so under-engineered to be a disgrace.  8)

The 3D printer vac adaptor I bought did not hold up. The snap on clips/nubs broke off after a few month.  [sad]
