I purchased a KS120 miter saw and CT36E dust extractor package last February and have not been getting the 91% dust collection that I would like. Has anyone upgraded the 27mm hose to the 36mm hose? If so does it collect better? Did you have to make any modification to the 27mm connection on the saw to fit the 36mm hose? Does anyone have any suggestions to help with dust collections?

The 27mm hose is constricting the airflow of the Festool CT's. That's OK for sanding and you want the lighter, more flexible hose. For the Kapex, you want a 36mm hose and some even cut it short for better flow. The tool end of a 36mm hose fits right over the output tubes on the larger tools, where a 27mm tool end fits inside them.

i have a ctl26 and a shortened 36mm hose and i still dont get 91% dust extraction [sad]

I use a Dust Deputy and have a short length of 36mm hose to connect the Kapex to it. I also  have a shortish length of 36mm hose going from the DD to the CT26.

Dust collection is affected mainly by the type of cut. If you are trimming a slither off the end of a piece of wood you will get a lot of dust as the dust in not channelled through the cut. If you do a cut where the offcut is more than a few mm then the dust will be constrained in the channel to a degree and this will aid dust collection. Because I do a lot of filming I try to keep my workshop clean. I have noticed that regular vacuuming of the kapex area keeps the overall level of dust down significantly. I suspect that dust already lying nearby gets disturbed by the airflow caused by the saw blade and then adds to the general perception of dust from the cut being performed at the time.
