KSC60 new handle design

I just had delivered a KSC60 supposedly set version 577955 but it is actually a Master edition saw 578179 with the box opened and bonus blade removed, then a power set added to it.

I notice that the handle and switch is different to most of the images online and the head is not locked in the up position, until you press the release button on top of the handle, because it doesn’t have one.  The trigger is also different.

Questions.

Is this a new design that there has been no chat about.

Is it a way of shipping stock that they made with the wrong motor/saw head assembly on as it’s the same as the new Symmetric SYMC70 saw.

I thought that the heads had to be locked until user releases it, like on all other saws I have used.

Anyone’s thoughts on this would be welcomed please.  I have searched for any notice of an update and found nothing.  I don’t want to end up having the wrong thing.

Unless my google-fu is garbage, the Master 578179 product is at least a couple hundred cheaper than the 577955 set?

First,  [welcome] to the FOG!

You have this backwards.  The Master edition is not the primary edition, it's a limited edition that is the KSC 60-Basic plus a "bonus" blade.  The -Plus is a -Basic plus a power set.

Festool sells most of their cordless models in a -Basic / bare-tool version as well as a -Plus version that includes batteries and a charger.  Some are also sold in a -Set version with even more accessories on top of the batteries and charger.  In Europe, there is a -Set that includes the UG stand plus batteries and charger, but that version is not sold in North America.

A picture of your saw would help greatly, as there is no release button on the top of any handle that I see in any images online of the KSC 60.  The KS 60 has this, but not the KSC.

Not likely.  As mentioned above, the KSC 60 and KS 60 have completely different heads.

This isn't how Festool works.

Also, the heads on both the KSC60 and the SYMC70 look almost exactly the same.  I haven't dived into the parts fiche, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were the same; that would make sense from an engineering/production efficiency standpoint.  The main difference would be the lettering on the outside of the body in that case.

It's more likely that whatever site you used to purchase or research the KSC 60 was incorrectly using images of the KS 60 in their materials if the saw looks significantly different online and in person.

I'm not aware of any regulation about this.

See above.  It's more likely that you purchased from a store that used the wrong image than you got the wrong piece of equipment.

Hopefully that helps.

Thank you for the welcome and in depth reply squall_line.

We do get three official option from Festool in the UK just like you said.  Basic, Plus with batteries and charger (the one I ordered) and the Set with the stand and side support arms.

Nearly all of what I have seen image and video wise on YouTube and even Festools official ones have the KSC60 looking identical to the KS60 with just the motor as the difference.  If I look hard enough now I can find a few KSC60 without the green release button on the top under where your palm would be and as all the videos for the last three years that the KSC60 has been out have looked the same as the KS60 it made me wonder.  I will have to assume mine is a newer update and clearly not an old version.

I just found it odd to receive this and also for there to have been not chat around it when I searched.

This is the second attempt at replying as I wanted to add a couple of images but that went a bit wrong and they have ended up on the original post and I deleted my first reply.  Talk about making things hard work.

Anyway it would seem I have not got anything that will be less than expected in the way of performance.  Just a different mechanism for the head movement and a different trigger.  Which does look easier to use than the previous one that required the pressing of the safety button with your thumb.

Thanks again for your input.

Sounds like maybe KSC 60 REB is out.  10703274.

At least according to EKAT, it's now dropped out the #30 locking mechanism 10010810

Sounds like woodferret is onto it but it still only says EB model.

Maybe the photo will help.

Sorry I blanked out the T-Nr thinking I should not post it. It is as you said 10703274
