Lacquer Finishing Approach

I'm realizing the finishing companies often have a approach such as sealer, stain, finish, etc which is often described in thier product data sheets.  One good example is the SW Kem Aqua Plus process BUT the surfacer and clear finish are only sold in 5 gallons quantities. Seems like a lot for myself as a hobbyists. Any other SW products that give similar results or process?  I'm meeting the local SW production representative in a couple of day to get more information and pricing.

A local woodworker has a site about Target Coating which appears straight forward on the finishing process.  It's very intersting although my biggest issue is I have mail ordering the finish.  Any thoughts? 

My goal is to find a finishing process that I can focus on mastering such as SW or Target, or etc...

Do a search at SW site on Kem Aqua products as some products come in gallon cans.

The Sanding Sealer is 5 gallon only, the KA+ MRE is available in gallons, all others are 5's.

The Surfacer is 5 gallon only, the KA+ White Mid Gloss, is available in gallons, all others are 5's.

Reading some of these threads, I can't believe what some of you are paying for SW KA+. I'd have some very strong words with my rep if I ever got charged what you guys get charged.

In another thread I mentioned I was out of town, I was at our daughters new to them home. I knew needed primer and paint, text my rep what I need and the delivery address the week before I went out there, got a call from the delivery driver in Highlands Ranch CO. that he just placed the order on the porch. Great service is the most important thing to me when it comes to my vendors, good pricing is a bonus.

Im getting 5's of the KA+ go like $150. Are you getting better prices than that? Also I don't want to hijack but how necessary is the surfacer? Do you get better results doing the surfacer then KA instead of just a few coats of KA?

Yes, much better finish with the Surfacer. Sands great, I use it under paints also. I also like to use Sanding Sealer.

You're at the same price point I am. I've seen on here as high as $100.00 a gallon, average appears to be around $70.00.

That would be me paying close to $100/gallon.  The new SW rep in the valley is not nearly as good as their last one.  I'm still working on trying to get the number down on the material.  I typically use Target for my clear coats but love KA+ when I'm working with anything that needs to be painted.

Yes, goes on @ 7-8 mills wet.

Sands extremely well.

Are you referring to the Kem Aqua Plus Surfacer here?  If so are you suggesting a higher mills wet than they list here?
