I couldn't resist the urge any longer and I've treated myself to a new tool . I dropped in to see Warren at toolfest on the way home tonight and collected a domino and domino systainer ;D

Had a quick play with it , can't wait for my next built in job it see how good this thing really is.

My first time using a domino tonight, the only one I've used is the 700 which I had a go of at a demo when it came out.

congrats  joiner.
idoes that domino systainer have the lift out trays like the domino xl domino sys

The DF500 is one of the most useful tools to have around. I am making four side tables, some with drawers, and the Domino makes it so easy. Everything is cut to the length required and then zip-zip the joints are done. The DF700 is also brilliant and has a great design for the locating pins on the front face. I make a lot of the dominos myself - it is very easy to do and you can make wider ones too. Make up a reference block, you will not regret it (the DF700 one is pictured).

I sold my Lamello within days of getting the DF500 and have never missed it at all.

Just remember to check the settings (height of cut, depth of cut and width of cut) before you plunge - about once a month I make a bishup!

Uh- could you tell me how the reference block is used?
Thanks,

Hi Gary

I made the first reference block when I was testing the accuracy of the fence etc on the DF700. I then realised how useful it was and refined the idea slightly.

The Domino machines can take different size cutters. Each size makes a slightly different width slot - and knowing this is useful, particularly when doing joints with 2 or more dominos. When, for example, I domino an end to an edge, in the same size stock, I try to have an equal space between the edges and between the pair of dominos.

I use one size cutter on each face of the reference block for the DF700. For the DF500, which has 5 cutter sizes, you can either put (say) the 4mm cuts on a end or on the same face as the 5mm slots.

Congrats on your new tool.

Had mine for a while and have to say it's a must in any workshop, professional or hobbyist.

Nice one Matey.
I paid well over what the current deals is three years ago and the only regret I have is not getting it sooner.
Enjoy.

I've got no paying jobs for it yet, I was going to build my boys New wardrobes over Christmas but for £360 I can pick up some Ikea ones so I won't be using that domino just yet ;D
