need to organize coats inside a cabinet. i just realized the ideal solution is to hang them from the ceiling of the cabinet on a lazy style hook system. has anyone done this? i've never heard or seen it before.

Dry cleaners use a system like this on a much larger scale.  It's really not practical on a small scale due to the radiusing requirements for turn areas.

interior footprint of cabinet is roughly 2' by 2'

you don't think "dry cleaners" would be a nice looks?

When I was in the closet remodeling industry, I did see one such dry cleaner's system in a residence.  It went up into the finished attic and made a series of turns before coming back down.  I've never seen one woman that had so many clothes.  It was rather disgusting, frankly.  In your case of 2' x 2', you might use the over/under or upper/lower concept devoting 42" to each section.  If you have an 8' ceiling, you can get two partitions and hang them from a rail on the back wall as high as possible, using a fixed shelf at the top to hold the partitions together and set your two rails to whatever height you need.  Check out the California Closets offerings.

Very cool idea and interactive. Don't have the head room though.

Just trying to maximize amount of jackets that can be hung without a rod and coat hangers. That setup is in the cabinet one over. Right now I have hook lining the wall but in a 2x2 space there's a lot of empty room in the center.
