Let's talk about saw blades...

Iain,

I'll happily offer my services as test driver for your prototypes, but please let us know if the kerf is going to be wider than the Festool standard blade, because a wider kerf will affect both the splinter strip and splinter guard (neither of which are expensive, but I'd prefer to know ahead of time). I think I'd set up with a new festool blade and switch them regularly though a couple of jobs too get a feel for difference in quality of cut and life of blade before sharpening.

Ian,

I'd be happy to test a blade or 2 for the TS55.  I've been very happy w/ the Festool blades to date, but it will be really great to have an alternate source.

I realize this is a different category than what you're currently talking about, but it would be really nice to find a source of blades that are inexpensive enough that they can be thrown away after cutting "questionable" material.  It's not something I do often but its the only reason I've kept my cheap Skil saw around after buying the TS55.

Iain,

Are you planning on coming out with something with a higher tooth count than the 48 teeth, ATB (alternating top bevel)

currently in the TS55 Blade Coral?  And the same question for the 56 teeth, TC (triple chip) for plastics & aluminium?

(also, in your version would the arrangement & the angles of the teeth be the same as the 56 count above?)

In referencing the above blades I cut primarily veneer covered plywood and clear Plexiglas panels (as well as cast fiberglass.)

I also use the Panther saw blade (160x2.5x20mm 14 teeth ATB) for ripping hardwood stock.

In the photo of the 1 inch plexi panels below I used the 56 teeth, TC (triple chip) blade for the straight and angled cuts. (the stands were fabricated to hold a wooden cradles, which in turn holds scrolls that fit inside a floor standing cabinet/sculpture)

thank you,
Roger

The above I inch plexi was flame finished after cutting.

This seems to be a good place for some photos for cuts on cast resin...........

Iain, I would love to see what you got in your bag for what I did below.....(as well as above)

Cutting the ends of a cast fiberglass casting for a sculpture with the 56 teeth, TC (triple chip) blade on the TS55.........

(I'll leave the more process oriented photos of the piece with descriptions to a latter project post.)

The depth of the angled cuts below were 1 3/8" (one at each end of the casting)

Jerry,
Thank you for the information. I have noticed a real concern on this forum with sharpening and I hope to be able to ease some fears in the future. I am glad the Gold Medal performs well for you and you are the first person to ask me for a Gold Medal band saw blade so I will have to dig into that question a little more.

Thanks again, Iain.

Hi Guys,
We've gotten nothing but great feedback on our sharpening of both Tenryu and Festool blades.  If you are looking for a high-quality sharpening service, please give us a shot!

We've also been selling Tenryu blades for over 20 years.  Tenryu actually flew my grandfather out to their headquarters in Japan back in 1987 to tour the factory and review the specs of some of their blades.

Here is some info on our sharpening, for those interested:

Thank you,

It would be nice to have a good rip blade, a good combo blade and a good fine finishing crosscut blade for the TS 75 - all with the same size kerf.  I don't care if the kerfs are a little different than Festool's kerfs (that is plural), just so long as Tenryu blades all had the same kerf.
I agree with this 100% - except I have a 55.  Keep the same kerf size for a variety of quality 55 blades and you'll have me as a customer.

This is a pretty tall order. Sure the teeth and set can be controlled so the thickness of the blade is the same but as Spike and Rick described in another thread the actual kerf can vary quite a bit depending on many factors including tooth geometry, wood characteristics, and whether you are ripping or cross cutting.

Zach,

Went to your web site and tried to register but it said I needed to contact by email to get a customer code. When I tried the contact us link, it asks who to contact and a manufacturer. Not easy to figure out since the options don't include customer code. What do we need to do to register?

Hi Less,
You don't actually need to register to place orders.  You can add items to cart and go to checkout, where it will ask you for your address and billing info.  If you would prefer to register (in order to be able to track your sales history and have your address on file), you can fill out the form at the following link:

Sorry for the confusion, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Zach Burns

Hello Roger

Thank you for the great images and write up. I had planned on improving the tooth counts on both the TCG and ATB blades - I am looking into the cast acrylic application and will feedback my findings.

(Qty 3) 160x14T Rip blade ATB Grind. Assigned
(Qty 3) 160x12T Rip blade ATB Grind. Assigned - Thanks for contacting me regarding the blade trials. There will be more available soon.

For the TS-75 owners I have blades in production and will follow up soon. There will be also be some different TS-55 blades available for testing soon including a 160mm 60T veneer plywood blade, and a thin plastic/acrylic blade.

Thanks again,

Iain

Hi Iain,

I'm an avid TS-55 user. I've been wanting to try a lower tooth count combi blade than the few I've got. If you still have it available, I can promise a good workout.

Thanks for your posts on this subject and the opportunity you've given members here,

- Kit

Hello, Just a quick note to let everyone that the blades have arrived from Japan and I will start shipping out the demo blades to the people who responded this week.
Thanks again for the support.

I'd love to have some feedback on these blades.  I'm particularly interested due to all but the last one having the same kerf.  I'd love to be able to use the same guide rail setup for all of my blades.  I think Festool dropped the ball on this aspect of their "system"
