Yup most stuff the screws and the terminals are color coded. Silver for neutral and gold or brass for hot.
In the lamp world of polarized plugs, the wider plug blade is the neutral. That wire goes to the silver terminal and the other to the brass. If you are wiring a switch in gotta make sure you interrupt the hot leg.
