Lie Nielsen / Veritas #5 LA jack plane hotdog handle question.

Has anyone tried to see if the LN hotdog handle will fit on the Veritas #5 low angle jack plane or if it can be reasonably modified to fit?  Derek Cohen had an interesting article online for making your own wood handle for the Veritas LAJ but my project list is so deep it’s likely to be 2020 before that’s going to happen.
