Line laser levels

Im about to buy a line type laser level , I have used the large expensive spinning ones and the small cross line ones. There are a couple I am looking at the PLS180 and the Dewalt DW087K. I have been using someone elses PLS180 this week and they are great very fine line and quiet bright. I used a Dewalt one a few months back but cannot remember if it was as good as the PLS180.

The Dewalt looks tougher than the PLS180 and is about a 3rd cheaper than the PLS180 but I dont want to buy the Dewalt if its not as good as the PLS180.

Has anyone here got either of these lasers can you help me decide ?

Heres another one I spotted that someone on a UK forum reminded me to look at the Leica Lino D2

Leica Lino L2

1mm over 5m so its more accurate than the others slightly
 
Nice looking bit of kit.makes the dewalt look like something you would get in a cracker.
 
        Looks good.Even has along distance funtion for footings.How much is it Chris? [tongue]
 
found it for gbp 179 inc vat i like the way you can lock it off for transport etc.

I use the Bosch GLL 2-50 with the BM1 mountand it is a great bit of kit.

Did you look at that?

Guy, I had spotted the Bosch but wanted to get a laser from a company that specialize in levelling tools rather than a tool company thats what put me off the Dewalt.

Chelseaboy, I did see the Stabila but it was coming up dearer than that site you have linked to I already have a Stabila laser but its just a spot one and doesnt self level but I know Stabila are good. For GBP 50 less though the Leica is looking good.

They have brought out a new version of the Leica Lino  more functions. 

I unfortunately already owned the Leica Lino L2  its a very good laser and very robust. The tripod which you see on the video is RUBBISH really its RUBBISH waist of time throw it away straight away you might aswell just sit the laser down on the surface with out the tripod.  The metal is very weak bends extremely easily but thats not the bad point  but the Magnet is soo weak if you blow at it it would fall off trust me I poop my self worrying it might fall of when I walk away from it its a very weak magnet also their is no height adjustment so if you use a screw in the wall or somthing instead you have to be spot on because you cant adjust the height so you end up with 5 holes to get your screw in the right place.

The tilt attachment inst great either cus just awkward so use  its a good idea if you place the tripod on a very uneven surface you can get it level or if your doing angles on a wall so I would keep the tripod to use that but you can use the attachment on other tripod so you dont need to keep the leica tripod.

I bought the Bosch B1 bracket and its BRILLIANT  the magnet is very very strong I would be happy to walk away from it and not worry about if falling off even if some one kocked it slightly it would hold also its got about 70mm height adjustment in total.

I dont know what the bosch laser is like  but the bracket is a must buy aswell as buying a large tripod

Cheers JMB, but I think Im going for the Stabila it looks more sturdy I can get it for about 185 plus vat but you dont get much for that just a pouch and the laser no hard case and no bracket from what I can tell.

The stabila with self leveling right? You have to have self leveling.  I wouldnt go with dewalt because it hasnt got the locking function so to parts inside get knocked around all the time while its in your van which to me cant be good for long term accuracy even though its in a hard case.

This has been very interesting.  I would have gone for the Leica but after hearing JMB's problems with it then i think i would also go with the Stabila.  Always good to hear from someone that actually owns one.

Yeah the stabila lax200 is self leveling but my old stabila spot one is manual with two bubbles, ive had it for years but not used it much most big jobs for builders i do i have access to a spinning laser but thought it was time i got my own laser and i dont need the spinning type.

The laser its self is Brilliant.  I have dropped it onto concrete from 923mm lol I measured the unit when it fell of lol to see how high it was and its still fine.  

Maybe what I dont like about it is that you know how these types of lasers only have a certain laser view angle  well this one shines more of it down then up.  Like the Dewalt shines more Up and down.   My mate has the Dewalt and we placed mine high up and mine was much brighter on the floor than the dewalt and started sooner and went further but when both were placed on the floor the Dewalt was brighter on the ceiling and the laser started directly above it. So really the dewalt is better for that.   just that is hasnt got LOCK on it and its a dewalt made me not buy it.

I think its important to have the LOCK function

I like it that you can adjust that stand for height.  Just off topic a little, what camera are you using to take the videos ?  I cant get pics on here, wouldn't know where to start with videos  [blink].
