Line laser levels

Chris, can you do a short review once you get aquainted with it, your research of the subject prior to purchase has been quite interesting.
I feel you could give a balanced view of the tool that would be a benefit to many.

cheers, Rob.

jmb, have you picked up that cut off saw? it is soooooo light compared to others i have used. What dealer said he wouldnt recommend hilti? you ony buy hilti from hilti as far as i know apart from the odd hire place that do thier guns. when i bought a cordless sds from them they phoned me 2 week later to see how i was getting on with it, i said fine but i think there is a side handle missing and googles, they arrived next day in post with a couple of drill bits to say sorry.

My mate has 1 of thier old 18v drills and it still going strong 7 years later. can't beat their stuff if you ask me. even if some of it isnt made by them

No I just looked on the internet for stihl saws see how much they where find the best price and found Hilti and thought its new and looks good on the picture lol but I ended up getting the STIHL TS420.

It arrived today in a squashed box AAARGGH and it didnt work but it turned out the batteries already in it were flat its now working ok but I will check it for level etc.

Good service though I only ordered yesterday choosing 2-3 day delivery and it turned up in one day. This is the place I used if anyone wants one they are the cheapest

I would check the laser with super vision! I would be so picky I hate when something comes through the post like that I would be paranoid telling my self theirs gotta be something wrong with it definitely when the batteries come flat makes me think its been returned before! Strange the batteries where dead. Where the batteries already in the laser?!?!?  Quick delivery though!

Can you do a review showing the the angle range of the laser.

cheers

No worries

I had to convey this sad story regarding my pls180.  I was setting up my new temporary shop, setting casework against the wall when my laser fell off the very shaky setup I had.  The unit hit the ground hard still attached by it's magnetic bracket to the square I was using.  At first I did not notice that the bezel was cracked but as the day went on I found places on the wall where I could not see my line.  That's when I realized something was horribly wrong.  No biggy I thought, I'll just send it in and "Bob's your uncle" (that's for you Brits) it will cost me about a hundred bucks and I'll get it back in a week.  Man I was wrong.  The tool cost me around three hundred dollars with my pls2 in trade to the manufacture originally.  Now they want 192.00 to replace the laser outright.  That hurts, but what are you going to do?  I'm thinking about starting a collection or something.

Chris, you're a very nice man, a very nice man. (remember the old A.A. adverts!)  ;D  ;D

Yeah Seen that Bosch Laser in the shop the other day.  Umm first impressions seems abit rubbish lol.  It has the pendulum lock but the pendulums still move abit. I tried it lol I locked it and then gave it a bit of a shake lol  [embarassed]

I had two Lax 200 lasers sent to me both arrived with the pendulum lock not engaged [eek] The first one would not power up I suspect because the battery contacts where out of whack. I didn't bother trying to repair it.
The second one also arrived with the pendulum lock not engaged but did power up after replacing the batteries. It was shipped with the batteries installed and the switch turned on [eek]. I checked it and it was not accurate in the horizontal plane so I returned it also. (out 7/16 in 30 feet) Both had a bit of a rattle with the lock engaged. Nature of the beast maybe? I ordered the Bosch GLL2-80 it has pretty much the same specs in regards to accuracy as the Lax200 and one year more warranty. So I'm hoping it works out I'll post my opinion after I get to try it out.

Hi oldwood sounds just like my story except when I checked the first level it was well within the limits for accuracy. Regards the wobble/ rattle when locked I was told by Stabila over the phone that you do still get some noise but its not the pendulum. I am really glad I bought it , it saves so much time . Dont get me wrong Im not new to lasers been using them for years but due to cost have never owned my own line laser. I use it for even simple little jobs like boxing radiator pipes the other day, in seconds i have marks on the wall for my battens where as with a normal level I would have had to mess about around all the pipes rising from the boxing to the rads the laser does it perfectly.

Hi Joiner,

It does sound like the same problems you encountered. I have used nothing but Stabila levels for twenty five years so I felt the laser was a safe buy but the local distributor didn't seem to be able to get one to me that was operational so I hope the Bosch works out for me. Glad to hear yours is working for you I suspect my problems are due to the distributor.

It's really odd that Stanley isn't the buyer (since they bought B & D, who bought almost everyone), but Bosch bought CST/berger from Stanley a while back. To my knowledge, Bosch stuff is CST, which isn't to say it's bad...

Tom

Hi Oldwood

Just a bit of reassurance hopefully, I bought the Bosch GLL2-50 laser level and have used it for a number of jobs, kitchens, stairs, etc and its a great little laser.

Like you I was a bit reticent about the purchase and if the dealer had a Stabila I perhaps would have gone for that, but it was a good deal so I took it.

Does everything I need and the self levelling function and locks are fine. Would buy it again in a heartbeat!

Guy

Tom,
I think this model does com from CST Berger as on one site a link to the manufacture web site takes you to the CST Berger site. I think Bosch did buy Robo Toolz also so I don't know if that has any bearing on this level.

Guy,

Thanks that does make me feel more confident about my purchase. My big concern is the accuracy, I do kitchens and like to get all the cabinets in as plum and level as possible and if you start with a tool with poor specs you don't have much hope of getting a good result.
I have read many rave reviews of the GLL2-80 and combined with the three year warranty that sold me. That and the poor service from the Stabila rep  :(

Gerry

I think Robo was swallowed up by Poreter Cable several years ago.  I have 2 different Robo lasers.

Peter

Gerry,

Thanks for the link.  Maybe Porter Cable licensed their technology for a while:

Remember, Bosch also owns David White as well now.
