Not sure now many of you know about this, but if you jump through the right hoops -- search for an item through live.com - find a result in ebay and purchase it via paypay - today you get 30% cash back.

that's the good news... the bad news is it seems like everyone is doing it today, so my 2 purchases are stuck in various stages of completion and I had to go to work today so I can't babysit them to find out if they are going to complete correctly.  I will go home at lunch to check on them.

Anyone else doing this today and experiencing the same?

thanks!

Carl

just an FYI, the system seems to be working now for anyone thinking of using it (I saved $200 on a new bandsaw - not including the $82 with the ebay coupon as well as $162 on a new miter saw!)

Carl --- do you mind explaining how this works?  -- if you do (and would request me to get off my lazy rear and find out for myself  ;)), I would understand.  :D

no worries...  there's a good write up athttp://www.toolcrib.com/blog/2008/10/16/10-20-30-cash-back-on-grizzly-through-ebay-microsoft-live/

basically...
1. sign up for a live.com cashback account
2. use live.com to do a search - *if* there's a link to products in ebay that qualify (it's pretty apparent), follow that link.
3. find the item you want and "buy it now"
4. use paypal to pay for the item

Manufacturers seem very willing to put items up for you if you want a specific item.  Grizzly put up a specific model I wanted right away

let me know if you need more info

happy shopping

In some cases you have to wait 90 days for the refund to show up on paypal and I know at least three people that were denied for frivolous reasons. I want that discount at the time of sale or forget it, it saves me no money at the time of purchase so it really does not help out in times like this when business is slow and we are living month to month.

The last time I used it I was sitting on my hands for two months hoping the discount did not fall though because if the deal did fall through I would have ended up paying more for the item than elsewhere. I got the discount but it was not worth it in the end for me.

If they made it an instant refund I would use the live.com discounts more.

Good Evening,
I hope people got some good deals on the live.com thing on Black Friday.

I have known about Black Friday for some time, of course, but where in the world did "Cyber Monday" come from?  I think of myself as pretty much up-to-date on these things, but somehow I missed the birth of this craze.

Thanks,
Matthew

love it -- it's still going on...

I saved $282 on a new grizzly bandsaw ($200 max live.com cash + $82 from an ebay 10% coupon) as well as $162 on a new makita miter saw...

;D ;D ;D

The term Cyber Monday started being used around the late 90's when most homes still used dialup internet access.  Users would wait until they got to work on Monday and use the faster corporate connections.  At the time I was a network admin, and our internet usage was higher this week than any other.
