The wife and kids need a Christmas list from me. I was wanting a decent brad point drill set with hex shanks. Now I would think I could find one pretty easily on that world wide interwebby thing but I could not really find much of a selection.

If you know of a decent set please let me know where it can be had so I can add it to my Christmas list.

Thanks
Uncle Joe

Made by FAMAG, set of 19 HSS-G Brad-point drills, in plastic case

I use these. If you can get them... get them. These are the best I ever used.

But if you're really in for the hex bits ..

You can get these in a set to. (All in mm, like one would want all there drill bits  ;D)

I get mine and the info mentioned in this post from here

Merry christmas

Lee Valley.  US-made bits, in a US-made case, with LV's own special grind on the tips added in Canada.  I bit the bullet and bought the big set this fall.  VERY nice.

I also bought the Centrotec set, also very nice, but pretty limited.
Another vote here for the Lee Valley set.

I may be biased as I am the Famag agent here in the UK but I can highly recommend them and second Mauri's selection. ;)

Is there a way to get Famag bits in the US without paying the high shipping rates to order from a dealer in Europe?

A quick google search came up with the following.

Woodcraft carries their forstner bits so I guess they could get whatever you'd like.

Traditionalwoodworker
sells the brad point bits.

Furthermore I read somewhere that the traditional FAMAG Forstner bits won in the USA the first place. That implies there must be more dealers out there on your side of the pond.

I would rate Famag, WL Fuller, Festool, and the Lee Valley bits all about the same quality: EXCELLENT. Morris Wood Tool is probably on that list also although I have no experience with their brad point bits.

Festool has the advantage of Centrotec so that is the choice IF you want Centrotec.

Famag has the advantage of availability in Europe, making that your obvious choice in Europe.

Lee Valley is readily available to hobby woodworkers because they all have a catalog and know about their excellent customer service, etc.

WL Fuller is my choice for bits as I have a preference to deal with a US company that makes their products in the US. They will also give you detailed advice about the best bit for a special task. I have ordered several production bits modified to be ideal for a specific task.

Bosch Colt is a big step down in quality with the typical stuff from Lowes, HD, etc. well below that.
