I'm building a mountain dulcimer with my niece over the holidays using this kit from harpkit.com.

They attach the fretboard after attaching the back and soundboard to the sides and want you to put a clamp in the middle of the fretboard using the sound holes. We want to make our own sound holes in the shape of her dog's paw print (rather than making a large hole and gluing in a laser cut rosette) so I'm hoping to come up with a source for light duty clamps that will fit through a small hole.

I'm open to other ideas about how to clamp it too. Once we have a plan then I figure we'll design the sound holes to suit the clamps.

Here's our inspiration, from Tim Stuart at Nature Coast Dulcimer Works.
