Hi. As the title states, I'm looking for a small compressor. When I say small, I mostly mean relatively noiseless. Criteria 125 psi, less than 50 decibles and not much bigger than a breadbox.

I know they're out there, I saw a few at the last Toronto Woodworking show. Naturally, I didn't write down any makes or models.

I've got a DeWalt compressor right now. It was advertised as being 72 decibels, but it sure sounds louder than that and is just too noisy for use in my apartment. Naturally, I don't want to pay $1000 for a dentist type compressor. I'd say max price would be

Look at the Senco.Small, quite, and light. Also the new Rol-Air is very quite. And in your price range.

Ditto on the Senco. Had no troubles with it at all yet, very light to carry and noise level is distinctly better than anything else I've had.

Here's a recent thread on the Rolair JC10.  I really like mine.  Its so quiet I can talk on the phone, listen to the radio.  The fan in the shop is louder than the Rolair.

What model of Senco do you have? I looked at their models online and they're all way too large. I'm looking for a compressor that is about 12"-15" in length including tank.

I have the little Senco and while it's a nice compressor I think I'd be happier with the Rolair.  The Senco is fairly quiet but you probably aren't going to be able to talk on the phone or listen to the radio while it's running.  Also, I have to slow down for it to keep up.  I get 6-8 shots or so with a 15 gauge nailer before it wants to cycle.  I have no complaint about the size or weight.

A CO2 bottle is nice. Noiseless, hangs off your belt, fits in a 12"x3"x3" box. I love mine. Only caveat is if you shot a bunch of nails in a row, you have to wait for the regulator to warm up. Mine's the PowerTank Side-Arm.

Denstist or similar compressors can be had pretty cheap - at least here in the UK - got a small Bambi for just over 100 GBP. Then boxed it! manufacturer noise spec is around 40dB, even quieter when enclosed. Good for running airbrush and a bit (non extreme) of nailing/brad work. Another manufacturer that springs to mind is Juno, both maybe primarily UK based, not sure. There must be similar manufacturers where you are. Will post a pic if I can work out how!

Edit : Well the image is in the temporary members' folder for now.
