Looking into ks88/120

Hi guys,

Basically looking into getting a kapex but can't work out the actual main differences between the two saws apart from the laser on the ks120...

Just want help in working out what's best for me, as I don't think the laser's would be that beneficial unless I'm totally wrong on that..

Also if this is in the wrong thread I apologise...

The KS88 is a stripped down 120. Took away the lasers and the separate corner measure thingy. And I think also the blade brake.

The maximum cut height is also adjusted. The KS120 can cut a piece of wood with a max size of 305 x 88 mm, but also has a special setting where you can cut a piece of 60 x 120 mm, where 120 is the height, hence the name KS120. With the KS88 they took out this special setting, leaving you with a max height of 88 mm, and so the name KS88.

On the Kapex KS 88 they also skipped the knob on the right of the blade which can bevel the saw blade vertically.

I find the lasers quite usefull.
I still always lower the blade to my pencil line for precise cuts, but I do use the laser to adjust the miterangle to a line on the workpiece.
(I also use the angle divider with the laser regularly)
For setting up compound miters it's also very handy, and if the cutmark is on the wrong side of a piece with a profile it speeds up creeping up to the line.

The knob for the beveladjustment is also a very nice feature.

I'm not too impressed with the "special cutting position", I used it a few times, but when I need to cut base that can be cut upright in that position I usually cut it on the flat, because you have to remove the rubber dustshroud to use it, and I have can't easily allign to my marks.

Has the Kapex KS88 only one laser or no laser? Because there is a black button on rear of the bevel.

None, I just checked the manual to try to find out what that button would do, couldn't find anything other than a star at the 120 features saying that it isn't included in the scope of delivery with the 88.

One year later, we still didn't buy a miter saw. The HK55 with FSK did the job, but more and more often we miss a mitre saw.
A couple of weeks ago we borrowed one for a job.

We wouldn't use it every day; no precisely work as kitchen installs but wallframings, ceilings, flooring with skirting, sheds, platforms, pergola's and fences. The only precise work should be the corners of skirting.

The corner bevel I could buy separate but will it useful without laser/LED?

How asshole-proof is the laser?
