Louisiana Benedictine monks building caskets using Festools

Just saw an interesting video on the BBC News web site about Benedictine monks in Louisiana that have been making their own caskets.  They recently started selling caskets outside their order, only to be served with a cease and desist order from the morticians and funeral directors in a protectionistic maneuver.  Interestingly, the monks are using Festool sanders and dust extractors.

I remember hearing a story from Sedge about doing a sander demo for someone building caskets.  I do not recall if it was this group or an Amish group.  Maybe Shane has heard that one too and can clarify.

Oh, in reading further about this situation earlier today, the original law seems to have come about in part to ensure that caskets are built to not exceed a certain size that is dictated by Louisiana's above ground burial chambers.

Sure did, CT22 and RO125 to profile.  [scared] Hand rubbed with 7 coats of modified tung oil. Ashes went in after completion!!!

Nope you guys can ask. Nobody in the pictures, but my buddy is now at his home. Interesting story, I have been friends since I arrived in Canada 13yrs ago and he worked on the oil rigs as an x-ray tech for the pipe welding, his mission was to make lots of money away from home and retire at 50. Well all those years of x-raying played havoc and he ended with brain cancer. So while he was going through all his treatments, me and him went over to his dads house and he gave me about 6 lengths of 3 x 12 walnut that had air dryed for over 30yrs, came from a tree that his dad cut. The plan was to build him a hope chest before he passed. Well the time came too quick so the plan changed and I ended up making an urn. All hand cut curves on the band saw and 9 individual pieces. Ashes went in the bottom under a screw in cover. And when that thing is full it is heavy. He would have thought this thread was pretty funny.
