I just purchased the LR 32 hole drilling kit, but when I went to set up my 1400 router it will not fit with the supplied hold down washers. I have to remove the washers and just use the hold down knobs does this sound correct?

thanks

The 32 mm hole drilling kit was designed for the 1010. Remember, the 1400 is the new kid on the Festool block, but there should be a set of screws and holes drilled out to secure the 1400 to the plate. Not as convenient as the 1010, but does work.

Bob, I'd say the 1400 is much easier to attach the LR32 base plate, two screws mount it and you don't use the washers and the thumb screws. Wsreynolds, Festool USA just put up my: Make a cabinet with the LR32 hole drilling system PDF. file on there site. Check it out for more info.

Here is a picture, two screws that's it.

The parts, washers, thumb screws and the centering mandrel (not pictured) in the back ground are not used to mount the 1400. Hope this helps.

Brice,

I wasn't quite clear - I meant to say that the 1010 was more convenient to use with the 32 mm set (at least for me) with it's smaller size and lower center of gravity.  Excellent article and well illustrated - major thanks and congratulations!

Agreed, I use the 1010 a lot.

Thanks Bob, glad you liked it.

Brice,

Great article!  And, very appropriate for me.  (You'll see another post either tonight or tomorrow morning.)

Thanks,

Dan.

Thank you very much for the replies. saw the 2 screws couldn't figure out what they were for, makes sense now.

Funny, I didn't know there was a farward and backward for the base plate  ;D Left to right or right to left, what's the difference. Intuitively, I think left to right would be correct, that's how you run a router, right (pun intended).

In the next day or two, I'll have some 3D animation of the LR32 hole drilling system on my site. Here's a seek peek.

Edit, the animation is done and on my site.

Brice,

If your carpentry work dries up, I know several companies that will snap you up as a web page developer! ;D Nice looking site!

Dan.

Brice,

On your About page, you mention the LR32 hole frilling system.  I've got an LR32, but I didn't get the frilling attachment.  I imagine the 5mm holes are decorated with scallops, or look like tiny rosettes.  Please post pics.  :D

Dan's right, you could easily hang out your shingle as a web contractor.

Festools are frilling don't you know that! Thanks for pointing that out Ned. ;) It's getting late here in the east, the brain went to bed already. The website is just getting started, I hope to get some real content on it soon.

Brice,

In all seriousness...

In the past several years, there has been some amazing work done by talented, knowledgeable people to explain woodworking techniques in general and Festool products and methods in particular.  That said, I think we've just scratched the surface.

The problem is that we are typcially dealing with processes and three dimensional objects.  It's important to show the start of a process, the steps in the process, the end of a process.  Documents and pictures do that, but that only takes us part way.  Live drawings, animated drawings, and videos fill in a thousand tiny details that we need.

For example, I downloaded your Vanity.skp file.  You don't get the real understanding of an object until you can flip it around in SketchUp to look at it from all angles.  Or take this workbench on Goggle 3dWarehouse: Workbench on Google.  You don't see that it's got a built in sanding workstation until you flip on the "x-ray" view in SketchUp (warning - VERY complex file).    Or take the LR32 video...  I learned more about the LR32 from that 3 minute video than from any other source.    Other sources showed the details; your video showed the ease of use.  I thought, "Well day-am, that is FAST!"

Nice work!  This type of multi-media presentation combining text, pictures, live SketchUp drawings, and videos gives us the a much better understanding.

Thanks,

Dan.

Thanks guys, I'm working on more animation as we speak, or as I type really  ;). Any request on my next animation project?
