LR32 door hinge options?

I'm using the LR32 system for the first time and wondering what door hinges I can buy that fit in the 5mm holes in the cabinet carcass? I picked up the only model of Blum hinge available locally to me and seems I'd need to use 5mm plastic expansion dowels for it to work with MDF and those appear to be a pain to track down.
I see in the LR32 demo videos that some guys are using hinges that have the plastic expanders built-in and press fit right into the 5mm holes, looks like it could the Blum 'inserta' line? What is the recommended hinge that pairs well with the LR32 system?

Cheers,
Matt

Look for "euro screw"  these are made to fit in a 5mm hole and have coarse threads similar to confiramt screw for holding well in mdf and particle board. no plastic insert is needed

Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately doesn't appear anyone sells these locally so will need to order, but glad I learned something! I bored my 5mm holes to 10mm...would you recommend I order the 5mm x 11.5mm euro screw?

Cheers,
Matt

These are the ones I started using but they are currently unavailable at Amazon.  I originally ordered 100 but recently got the 1000 pack so I should be good for awhile.  Hopefully they will come available again soon.  Maybe go directly to the manufacturer.

Euro screws

Depends on the panel thickness I usually try to go as deep as possible for the panel on hinges.  Doors get a lot of use and abuse so the deeper the better. MDF and particle board isnt real strong stuff and subject to blow out. The deeper the fastner the less chance you have of this.  You can always drill the hinge locations a little deeper with cordless drill and a 5mm bit.  Leave the shelf pins holes alone.

Yea not sure where you are but someone has some.  Check plywood dist. near you many carry stuff like this.  If all else fails woodworkers express will have some.

panel is 3/4" thick...what depth would be ideal in MDF? I called all my local hardware places and no one seems to carry them (or understands what I'm asking about), closest I can find them is a 45minute drive to Woodcraft so most likely will order online.

13mm is good I think they make a 14.5 too whichever is easiest to find or in stock.  You never know these days...

The 5mm "Euro" screws are definitely the way to go with this. They are also great with drawer guides. Once you have the rows of holes drilled, you can put a drawer or pull-out tray at any point, just like popping in shelf pins to move them around.

Euro screws

They require a minimum of 10,000 quantity to order.

More Euro Screws

Personally, I like the Hafele square-drive euro screws.  [smile]

Notice the shoulders on the mounting screws ?    That is pretty important as ALL the one the other fellas have steered you too are going to make vertical adjustment of the door very difficult if not impossible.

I only saw one other baseplate suggested, the one in Dynaglides post, and from the looks of it the vertical adjustment is very easy, just turn the extra screw on the baseplate and it moves up or down (The baseplate consists of two parts so the part where the hinge clips to can move up and down, controlled by the excenter setscrew while the other two screws stay in the same place)

Well, I was able to track down a couple 5mmx13mm euro screws (for 55cents each!!!) while waiting for my online order to test out the setup. The screws of course don't fit through the holes in the hinge plate....wondering if there's a good/clean way to expand the hole or if it'd be better to just return them and order some of the Inserta Blum hinges?

Thanks,
Matt

Drill them out to accept the 5mm screws. I've done this on two occasions now.

His are slotted to allow for adjustment.  In the future look for the nicer plates that allow adjustment independently of the mounting.  Its typically a few pennies in price difference per plate.

These came as a kit at my local Lowe's, I didn't see any separate plates there.

I'm completely new to door hinges and the LR32...I'm wondering where the best place online to buy them in the US is? I've heard there's a big shortage. For this project, I'm looking for inset hinges for a frameless cabinet that are plug&play with the 5mm holes the LR32 bores. The amount of options is quite overwhelming...these ones with a soft close look like they should work if paired with the right plate?https://www.cabinetparts.com/p/blum-hinges-european-cabinet-hinges-BH71B3790-p6670

I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions on suggested hinges and where to source them.

Cheers,
Matt

It depends which screws you've bought of course but some of them are very stiff to screw through the mounting plate - you have to force them.  That is how they're meant to be however.  Once the underside of the head meets the plate it goes slack and allows the plate to slide up and down allowing the vertical adjustment via the elongated hole in the plate.  I have screwed in hundreds if not thousands of these over the years.
