Greetings festoolians around the globe.

I have a question ???, one that may have been answered here before though I could not find an answer by doing a search..

I am interested in purchasing the LR32-Sys (and guide rail) but cant do that and get a fancy lime green router to go with it.. Does anyone know if it is possible to easily adapt the guide plate to fit a different router. I have a Makita 3620 (1/4) and Triton  (1/2) precision router. My suspicions are that it could be more hassle than it's worth but would like to here from someone who has actually seen the contraption rather than just pictures, so if you have tried and succeeded, tried and failed or even thought about it before adding it to your to do list or out the window I would love to hear from you

As much as I would like to buy more green machines the budget will not stretch that far at this point in time.

If you were to carefully center the adapter plate and the collet on your router with a mandrel of some sort (it comes in the larger LR32 kit), it's feasable that you could either drill the adapter plate for your router baseplate hole pattern, or maybe even luck out and have the included bushings fit.

The routers are actually black and grey. Only the letters are green so I dont really understand the reference of Festool tools as being green.

Hmmm, maybe he meant, "I would like more green to buy machines"

Just a wild guess.    ;D

Thanks Steven in Iowa

I know only the writing is green ;) it just seems like a lot of people on this forum refer to them that way so thought I would join in.. I am already lucky enough to have a few tools and love them and as to the green being money I'm in Australia where are money is all different colours but there is a fair bit of green on the largest note $100.00 (I call it green anyway) so that principle of Corwin's might be right.. It would be nice to have more of both..

Thanks for your thoughts

Andrew

I purchased the LR32 because I already owned a Festool router.  If I hadn't the cost would have been too high for me to justify the purchase as I couldn't make it pay for itself in the time frame I would have wanted it to.  If I hadn't owned the router I would have purchased one of the units from megproducts or taken the time to make something similar on my own.

I have the hole drilling set and an LR32 guide rail and a Festool 1400 router.  The hole drilling set Item # 583290 includes a centering mandrel (8 mm shank) and a pair of side stops Item # 485758 to precisely locate the holes to be machined using a router, and some mounting screws.  The router hole drilling guide plate Item # 494340 has a pair of diametrically opposed holes that match a pair of 6 mm tapped holes in the base of the 1400 router.  You should be able to line up a non-Festool router using the centering mandrel and then either drill and tap the base of the router to match the existing holes in the guide plate, or to mark and then drill new holes through the guide plate to match existing tapped holes in the base of your router.  Be careful to locate those holes such that the heads of the screws don't interfere with movement on the LR32 guide rail.  Since the Festool 1400 router mounts to the guide plate with only a pair of 6 mm capscrews, you know that 3 or 4 screws are not necessary.  Of course, 6 mm screws are bigger than the smaller screws commonly used to mount many other routers.  My Freud 1700 router uses 5 mm screws.  I had to line up 4 new holes in the base of that Freud router to join it to a mounting plate (for use of the the router in a table) with screw-in size rings, and it had to be centered to work correctly.  Just take your time with the layout and machining.

If your router base is similar in size to the OF1010 you may be able to use the clamping knobs that are used to secure the router to the guide plate. also use the centering mandrel. Order one and you may get lucky.

Hi

Thanks for all your replies, I think i'll sit and wait some more. down here in Australia I'm not subject too the NA price structure so would cost close to $700 a bit too much for a try and see.. Still cant complain as there are all these wonderful things here NAINA that i can at least visit and drool over rather than hear about and drool.

Cheers

Andrew,

Can you take your router to Ideal Tools' (Anthony's) Festool workshop or another dealer that has the hole drilling system in stock?  If so, you should be able to determine if your router can be fitted to the guide plate.

Thanks Dave

I would love to go to Anthony's festool shed it looks like a dream come true save that for the next time I'm on the "mainland" as we call it in Tasmania.. before i posted this i did go to my local dealer but they don't carry the LR32 as a standard and i don't want to get them to get it in just so I can have a look,  so thought I would ask here to see if any one had had some success or if it was just too difficult.
