LS 130 vs. RS/DS 400

Does anyone own both?  Can the LS 130, with available pads to the same sanding operations as the DS/RS 400?  It appears the stroke on the DS/RS is a little smaller than the LS.  Down the road I will have furniture refurb/refins to do as the wife picked up some old and abused pieces recently.  Also, will be doing some home improvement tasks.  Sanding trim and plaster walls, repairing or replacing damaged balusters, etc...

I have neither, however I've looked at both.  Remember that the RS/DS are orbitals, while the LS is linear.  I don't need either for now, but I'm much more interested in the LS as a companion to my Rotex 150.

I missed the orbital vs linear difference.  Thanks, Dan.  I guess I'll probably have to go demo each one and see how they perform.

  The LS 130 is a true linear sander (straight back and forth motion) rather than an orbital  (side to side)motion. This is why you can sand profiles with the LS 130. Both are not aggressive sanders though.

How does the LS handle stripping old finishes from furniture or trim?  How 'bout the RS/DS?  Are they aggressive enough to be used for that?

P40 grit paper is available for the LS and RS (they both use the same paper so just get them both, eh?). I can't imagine one would want paper that coarse if the sander wasn't capable of aggressive work. I have the Linear and find it can be very aggressive. It can do very fine work but you will only want to finish with it on applications that really benefit by sanding with the grain.
