The fam and I are in Munich on the last leg of our Summer vacation so while the wife and son are at the Opera, I went to a great Festool store, Dictum.  Holy cow!  They have some really cool tools we only wish we could get stateside.  If it weren't for the 220 cords attached to them, a few would have been coming home with me.  Their little edge router was interesting and some CMS modules would be handy.  However, I must say, I got my cold hands on a Mafell DD40, the new duodowler, and it was love at first sight.  It is a beast of a tool, very heavy, I don't know if they make it in a 110 version but if they do, it's going to be on my Christmas list. The sales guy had an interesting description of the difference between the Mafell and Festool.  He said Mafell is geared more toward heavy duty carpentry, framing, etc. and Festool is geared more towards the woodworking end of the spectrum.

Timberwolf is taking orders on the Mafell DDF40 for the 110V version.

Don't let 230V scare you away.  Schuko to Nema 6-20 adapter and things are all good.

I now have 1 Mafell tool, and I would say the comment on their focus is accurate.  Mafell is clearly targeting framers/timber framers.  Festool targets...well who knows at any given time.

I'd say Festool is more geared towards making things that can be accessorized.  Perhaps Mafell has a full line of accessories available in Germany.

Mafell is more of an everything you need, nothing you don't type company - has some well thought out accessories, but minimal overall. Their tools work very well, though.

It's not an issue.  Mafell sells 230v tools in the US, they come with Schuko plugs as they are just the German model.  Either use adapter or cut cord off and put new end on.
