Does any one know if it's possible to stop the irritating noise on start up of a MacBook Air, for some reason it's getting like nails down a blackboard!

John ,
This is no help but I normally resort to an estwing to sort annoying technology  [big grin]

Fortunately it's a notification noise to announce that you've turned it on, like you would have forgotten in the two seconds since you turned it on!
I would like to do without it.

Cheers guys, on the case now.
Best hammer I've had, glad I didn't have to pay for it. (Got to love samples)

How often do you shut down or restart your Macbook Air, that the noise is an issue?

I don't ever shut mine down, simply close the lid so it sleeps. The only time i hear the noise is when it restarts for updates. You really don't need to shut a Macbook Air down on a daily basis.

Ah, I didn't know that, it's a new toy so I'm still getting used to it.
Thanks all, muting has worked but now I know I can just slam the lid, I'm sorted.
Regards
John
(Putting hammer back)

You could also just delete whatever sound file it's playing that is objectionable...

"Think" it's stored at hardware level in the EFI/SMC, not on the HDD.

Hold on now, I had to get the instructions out for the "close the lid" solution, I can do that or mute before shut down. Beyond that is above my pay grade. Even I don't have the tools to strip down the machine to winkle out the little guy with the xylophone!
