Think i've made my first Festool purchase with style. This bundle of Christmas arrived today. Just got to learn how to use it all now.

Nice score. That's a great way to start.

One thing I would recommend is to the cleaning kit for the Tradesman one- the tubes are metal and you get a 36mm hose too which is more suitable for your TS55.

Could you expand a bit more on this please?

Sorry, word missing! I meant to write change the cleaning kit for the tradesmen's cleaning kit.

I think you got this...

and I was recommending you get this. More expensive but better value.

I second the Tradesman kit with the AS hose. My nice dealer was willing to swap out the non-antistatic hose for the AS version and just charge me the price difference btwn hoses, but the math shows the resulting difference is only $15... FWIW I also liked that the Tradesman's floor nozzle swiveled in 2 axis (axes?) whereas the other swiveled in only 1 axis. A nice improvement when one is covering a lot of floor area going vigorously back and forth.

Also you might want to consider the slight upcharge to change the rail to one with holes which would get you ready for LR32 work.

The Tradesman cleaning kit is nice and the D36 hose that comes with it is good for floor cleaning (bigger pieces go through better) and also improves DC for the Kapex, 1400 , 2200 router and planers. It helps some on the TS55 but I have never found it to be a big difference. If you get more Festool tools you will ultimately want both D27 and D36 hoses.  The metal cleaning tubes are nice but I prefer the plastic as they are less likely to cause damage  if dropped or used without an attachment.

It's likely he wasn't able to swap some of these things around as it is a special offer deal in the UK at the moment (comes free with the Midi).

I second the suggestion for the LR-32 version of the rail. I wish I had done that. Now if I want to get the LR 32 system I need to buy a completely new rail for £80 or so which is money I could have largely saved by trading up early on.

Mr Saint

You'll be sorry, you just drank the Green Kool Aid.

There is no turning back now

We are starting sort of a 12 step program

But this being a Festool addiction, Its really a 22 step program.

No one has completed it yet.

Some how I see a MFT or 2 in your immediate future

I'm way beyond 22 steps (or even 32) - I'm putting it down to a life choice [embarassed]

Please don't tell us that's the pie warmer in your mobile workshop that we can see in the background ... that'd be setting the stakes too high!

And so it begins :-) .......you are going to love these tools. Congrats! I 2nd, 3rd or 4th the recommendation to switch to the tradesman set. It would be great to hear your feedback on your new toys.

No mold company will be able to help this invasive green stuff, it's fast spreading in my garage as well

All i have had time to do so far is get it out of the boxes and have a look at it. Not even had time to connect it all together and start it up.
I am really impressed how well it is all thought out and connects together. I love the fact that in the bottom of the TS55 systainer has sections for extra blades, kick back stop etc.
If i had of known it had space for extra blades i probably wouldn't of bought the Saw blade bag but this is a good bit of kit and great for my DeWalt mitre saw blades.
The things that i am not impressed with is the Rail guide carry case. It is only padded on one side, so i'm not sure how i am supposed to put the rails in it for maximum protection. I had problems registering with the iPhone app and on the webpage on Friday but a couple of emails today sorted that.
I did look at upgrading to a LR32 rail but it was going to cost me half again for what the standard 1400 rail cost me. Since all of my work is construction/fitting i have no need for a LR32 kit at the moment. The LR32 kit is £271 and if i do decide that i need it an extra £72 for a rail isn't much more on top.
I don't think the compact cleaning kit was free with my bundle as the invoice states £22 but since they were matching a bundle from another website i probably wouldn't of got away with deleting it off the order. The tradesman cleaning kit is £143 (seems a bit crazy to me), so to upgrade it would cost me another £121. If the Midi extractor and compact cleaning kit can't cope with cleaning up, i will spend the £121 on a Henry hoover just for cleaning duties.

The Tradesman Cleaning Set comes in a SYS 5 and includes a 3.5m 36mm anti-static hose for that £143. The hose alone would be £83 of that. A SYS 5 would be £45, so you get the cleaning kit for £15 - an absolute bargain. It's one of the best value ways to get the 36mm hose and as the Cleaning Set itself is actually very good, that's why you'll see lots of owners recommending it.
