Today I finalized my own installation kit. Inspired here from several threads and not satisfied with the Festool kit because of the missing possibility to customize it in the way I would like to have it, I decided some weeks ago to build my own. It took longer than I thought it would be and it required more thinking and re-planning than it looks like. Now that it is nearly done I would like to show it here to the tool addicted crowd.

It is all made of plywood I had in my "shop". So it was cheap, if my time is free because it is a hobby for me. The insert has an upper part that is removable to get to the lower part that is designed to stay in the systainer. In the upper part there are the screw bits and an room for the wood drills and a CE Countersink dr. bit 3.5mm (492523). Under the top plate I build in the box for a set of nut drivers (Hazet). It is easy to push out, but stays in place because it ha a tight fit in wooden insert. Having it taken out the 3 Forstner drills are (okay the 50mm (2") is extreme cheap crap) and the hole saws. The 35mm is a FAMAG Bormax³ that is sharp like hell and makes perfect holes regardless the type of wood. The C12 has no problem with it. When the Forstner bits are old and worn out I probably will switch over to the CentroTec set from Festool, the insert is prepared to take the Rosebox with the drills.
In the back a set of HSS metal drills is stored and the metric CentroTec Spiral Drill Bit Set with Reusable CentroTec Shank. In the front there are two small sets of wood drills: one 5-piece Stub Brad Point BKS Wood Drill Bit Set 3-8mm (495130) and a quite similar but in the longer version with standard 1/4" hex that can be used with standard bit holders and chucks.
The most often used bits for driving screws are stored in the C12 systainer in a TwinBox Bit Storage Box. It is the entire SPAX T-Plus range from T10 up to T40, each one Würth AW10 and AW20 bit, a 4mm hex bit for IKEA furniture and the Festool PZ2 bit that was delivered with the C12. I did not need the bits that are included in the Festool installation kit, on the top plate of the insert I do store all the special bit I collected in the past. I drilled a 12mm (1/2") deep hole with a 8mm router drill that keeps the screw bits.

Because of the many plywood it is heavy when carry it around. I decided not to glue it together at this time because I want to see if it fits my needs and expectations. When I do feel comfortable with it for some time I will probably glue it together to make it more robust. I do expect I will make some minor adjustments in the next time because of experience with the self made installation kit.

Say now, there we go . Excellent job !    [smile]

exellent job. ell thought out. might build one of these. looks much cheaper than the 500 euro for the festool one. im sure there is a robertson drive in there some where [poke] [dead horse]

there might be but I bet it's not centrotec comparable. to keep kicking the horse, why is it that the offset chuck on the t and c model drills accepts ball detent bits but they can't make a centrotec adapter? just a thought
nice kit though, got me thinking........

Yes, there is a Robertson drive among these nearly "a thousand" bits, I learned it here that the small square bit is called that way. I don't have a need for it because I am doing screw driving in Europe.  ;)  Therefore I have the hassle with the non CentroTec drivers for the excellent Würth AW screws, which became my favorites over the SPAX T-Plus screws. Both do need special bits for easy and comfortable use.  [mad]

I forgot to mention, that in the middle on the lower insert, the space is tailor made for the plastic FAMAG wood drill box. I will do some routing on the top part to fit in the slightly longer plastic box from the CentroTec drill set. The FAMAG drills are so sharp, that I cut my finger when I picked one the first time. They are my favorite for drilling in wood, but unfortunately they need to be use in a Jacobs chuck. I miss the easy of using the CentroTec drills, this click in and click out is lovely.

Made some changes to the lower level oft the installation kit. By adding more and more tools and accessories to the Systainer it became to heavy to carry it around conveniently. So I took out the wooden part at the bottom and put in two extremely cheap and light plastic baskets (0.39 Euro per basket). That gave 7/8" more space inside. The set has an weight of 10.2 kg (22.5 lbs.) this is okay. By removing the bottom plate I got rid of 2 kg (4.4 lbs.). My hole saws went over to my corded drill systainer.

View from the top, I added a stiffer at the back, that makes it more stabel, but I cant pull out the drill boxes with the top insert in place. May be I will remove it again.

The two blue plastic baskets carry the accesories, the yellow Kinder Überraschung plastic boxes are empty, they will be filled with small parts that should be separate and protected. Right now I do not have a need for it, but it looks lowly and is an option for future ideas. At the lower right corner of the picture the short Centrotec drill set from Festool is placed. It prevents the Forstner drill set from moving and is easy to access when the top insert is taken out.

The two hidden drill sets, both are not CentroTec and therefore will be used more seldom. One is for wood and one is multi construction. Both do have 1/4" hex.

I extended the range of the wood drills a little bit to the smaller sizes. I do use 3 mm screws and i some applications it is helpful to drill a 2.5 mm pilot hole. The range with CentroTec bits end to the small sizes a 3 mm. So I went to the metal machining shop in the company I do work for and asked my workmates to make me an adaption. For the result, see the pictures below   [smile]  I can use standard drills bits with 2.5 mm diameter in the CentroTec holder for the 4 mm bits, right now a wood bit is in use. The 2.5 mm drill is fixed with the screw that holds the Festool drill bit through a hole in the adaption.
