Mafell MT55.....Has anyone got one or used it ??

I was redirected on youtube again and came across the Mafell MT55, I have seen it before but didn't really take much notice because I was in Festool mode. Now that I've really had a good look at this saw I'm seriously thinking about trying to find a south african dealer.

Does anyone on the forum have one of these saws?? And if so, what are your thoughts on its performance??

Its what a ts55 should be and i am sure the next facelift ts55, will have these and hopfully more features. Festool need to get on with the face lift as they are not the top of the tree any more [sad]

+ the splinter guard strips don't keep falling off, and the rail jointing bar is miles ahead of the festool joining bars....
( can you tell i sold my TS55 and got the Mafell)

Well, I guess you could always paint all those orange parts Festool Green, if that would make you feel better!

(It is an impressive saw, but I expect that Festool designers have been working to raise the bar ever since they finished up designing the TS55.)

I'm sure someone posted on this a few days ago, that the blade moves over slightly. If that's the case, then you're right it'd be crap for butting up panels. Even if it only moves 0.25mm, that'd leave a half-mil gap in the face of your panels.

From what I have seen and read on the Maffell this would be true. When you make the scoring cut and then change the setting to make the full pass the blade mores over by a tenth of a millimeter. granted a tenth of a mm isn't that big. I'm sure it would leave a small gap if you butted up two panels together. However a scoring blade on a sliding table saw would do the exact same thing. For me this is not an issue as I would use the under side of the cut from the Maffell, because the blade is cutting down into the material there is no chipping and no gap so butting up the 2 pieces would not leave a gap at all. The whole purpose for the scoring is to get both side clean so when edging the board, both side would be chip free.

So if your cutting a table top as you said, just cut with the bottom up.

Im sure that would be fine if all you saw was the face, but with counter tops where you see the leading edge aswell I'm not sure that would work, but I could be wrong.

no but i wouldnt use a plunge for a decent finish on counter tops i would use a router

I have but which one u talking about!
This one!   Lovely little thing so small and light so light feels like a toy!   IT works on and OFF the rail as it has a depth lock.  It has alot of power for its size you will be very surprised!
