Making longer tracks

If I had a need to frequently cut beyond 3000 with high accuracy I'd be investing in the 5000 .. cumbersome as it would be, joining rails and risking movement on a long and potentially expensive piece of material doesn't sound appealing.

half the job in knowing how to fix your mistakes.

For some repairing mistakes is a fool-time job...

The 5000 seems like it has merit. I find a foot either side for clamping and saw guidance is useful and 10' is about 3M.
So I think if you only need 10' you may ideally want 3.15 to 3.2M  ?
Or if you do 12' then 4M.
Since I have only done 3M, I use 2x 1600-mm for 3.2M.

I recently made an 8' track out of hardy board from Home Depot. I made it about 10 or 11 inches wide so I could clamp. I'm at work right now, so I'll try to upload pics when I get home tonight. Used it once cause i made it the other day, but i figured once it is worn down, i can just make another. i can get 4 of them out of a $13 board.

I think this has been answered before, but will the Makita tracks work for the Festool track saw and accessories? The extrusions look to be the same.

i use a machinist edge and Makita connectors. simple, i doubt anyone is doing better than a starrett edge....... it is easy and repeatable.
