Makita ls1013 on Festool Midi

Hi all

I couldnt bring myself to buy a Kapex in the end so I bought the next best thing a Makita ls1013. I already have a Festool midi vac and wondered if anyone out there is running the Makita saw off a Festool vac and how well does it do ?

I also just purchased the Makita. I have it connected to a Ridgid vac with the upgraded hose and I am very happy with the dust collection. There is very little dust not captured by the vac. Good luck !

I also have the Makita running with a CT22. The dust collection is acceptable but not quite up to the Festool standard. Also you will need at least a 36mm hose for decent collection. The standard hose does not let enough air flow to get good results.

I have the 12 makita slider and i use it with the 22, with the bigger hose, but i also did something that really helped the dust collection significantly,  As you know, the little rubber shoot behind the blade is quite small, so i took it off and laid it flat on some rubber material that was a little thicker then what came with the saw, then i cut out the same shape of the stock shoot to the new rubber, but making it as big as i wanted, then i transfered the holes that secure the shroud to the metal shroud holder thing, and that was it.  The shoot is about three times bigger then the stock one and just as wide as the kapex.  when i cut a piece of mdf, the dust just collected through the shroud so beautifully, then i was happy.

Perhaps Makita has changed something since I bought my LS1013

I've been running my Makita LS 1013 with a CT 22 and I'd have to say it catches about 50% of the dust. Nowhere near what the KAPEX I played with was capable of doing. I am using a 36mm non anti-static hose and an empty vac.

I use my CT22 with my Makita 1013, works pretty well. I guess it gets about 70% of the dust. I use a 2 1/2" hose from my Ridgid shop vac instead of the dinky FS hose. I'm going to try the larger shroud idea, though, that sounds clever.

Hi guys thanks for all the comments and ideas.

I used the saw the other day for the first time what a great saw it is and half the price of the Kapex  ;D yeah I know its not quite as good  but it does for me.

As regards dust extraction with my Midi vac attached I was cutting engineered 14mm oak flooring and using the midi I still had quiet a bit of dust on the floor so the next day I didn't bother with the midi and I was cutting mdf skirting as well as the floor and the mess was everywhere so I reckon the Midi was doing a pretty good job the first day.

Only small problem I had was that the hose did not fit straight in the makita I just unscrewed and removed the black plastic tube that the bag fits onto and pushed the hose into the hole.

The makita replaces my ageing ELU mitre saw which has been great but all good things come to an end

I know your post is quite old, but my Makita LS1013 still works well.  Do you have the pattern for the dust scoop as mine never had one?  Also can you explain or post a photo of how the scoop is attached to the arm and how the level that operates the guard is dealt with?  Thanks!!

Wow forgot all about this post . Funny reading it back now as I do own a Kapex now. Still got the makita too.

Only the other week I spotted a guy on UK eBay selling 3d printed adapters for a midi hose to a makita saw.

I'm in no need of such an adapter, but the dogs raised my curiousity.... the weirdness went away when I saw it were benchdogs. [big grin]
