MAY 2008: MFK 700 Modular Router

I will agree with you on the doors being top notch, but for  hobbiest we also don't have much time either. We don't get to take 40 hour work weeks to build what we build. We have to squeeze time between dinner and bed time w/o causing family problems. Many of us don't have a paycheck at the end either.  If anything, a professional should document his or her work, it's the best way to market yourself. I run 2 businesses, help take care of my father and some how still make time to build stuff with no pay check at the other end. I do it mostly for the passion and the challenge. IMHO it's much harder for a hobbiest to document his work because we already work our 40+ hours and still, some how make more time to do what we do. If I had 40+ hours to do my work, I'd document everything and be able to turn out much grander projects. Think about it, if it took me 6 months to build the big humidor (which I gave away at the end) how much extra time do you think I had to document it. If I could work 40 hours a week on a project like that, I'd be done in 3 or 4 weeks. My hobby turns my work week into a 7 day a week job (I'm glad I don't see my wood working as a job) But if I did, my work week would be considered a 70 hr work week. I will tell you though, I've been working on a new project for a while now and almost every step has required my Festools and I'm documenting everything. I don't expect to win this month, but you can bet, I'll keep trying. Good luck to all my talented friends. If I am that lucky, I'd be honored. I wouldn't mind being a judge some time if you'll have me too. Here's some pictures of what I do to make money. How do you like this combo, high end car audio and dune buggies ;D Maby I should use my Festools to build some of these. ;D One more thing, these 2 businesses were once my hobbies too. ;) And I'll be happy to give FOG discounts. :)

Please don't read this as my being upset, I'm not at all, I'm just pointing out another opinion.

After tomorrow at 10:00 AM I won't be back for 10 days. I'm off to Hawaii for my first real vacation in 20 years. Good luck again my friends to all of us.

Sorry to jump in again but someone said to submit drawings? I almost never draw anything. The big humidor had no drawings what so ever and no dimentions written down on anything. I just started cutting and that's what happened. For me, that makes it so much fun. If it is going to require drawings or blueprints, count me out. I do use a program for turning but even that won't make the patterns I do. Maby one month we could do just the project and not be judged on a documentary. I'm a woodworker not a writer. :-\

Everyone,
As we progress towards the end of the month, and the conclusion of the first tool contest, I just wanted to report that one of the judges has left the forum.
I found out this morning that Nick has chosen to delete his FOG account.  So that means we have four judges for the contest.

I don't know if this counts but Nick had already announced his choice for the winner of this contest, Eiji.

I'm sorry to hear that. He was a good contributor.
No matter how this contest is judged, it does show how passionate we all can be about our tools. I've spent huge amounts of money on tools and tool boxes and never been this excited about the quality and features of any other tool company. I hope I win someday but I hope you can continue this great opportunity w/o contraversy. It does seem to me that you do have a plan that will allow a wide varity of people to win. Everyone just needs to be patient, have fun and enjoy the anticipation.

Bill,

For the record, I've been very impressed with your projects and would be quite surprised if you weren't in the top five to win.

They may not have required lots of Festools to build, but your joinery, design, finish and wood choices were done well.  Not to mention your turnings.

Tom.

Everyone,
This is the final push for the first contest!  Saturday, we'll have a winner.
Our four judges should make their decisions and communicate it.  I've made my decision.
Remember, if you don't win this month, you are automatically entered in next month's contest.

Hi guys, I'mlooking at the ocean in Kona wondering who won. Good luck everyone. ;D ;D

Bill the judges have made a decision, we are waiting for Matthew to make the announcement.

Good Morning,
The four judges have conferred, and we've made our decision.

AND THE WINNER OF THE MAIN TOOL CONTEST IS.... Eiji Fuller, and his Entry Doors Project!

Eiji will receive an MFK 700 Modular Rouer from Festool USA.

There were several tremendous projects posted this month.  I'm very glad to see that the number of projects posted since the contest began has increased dramatically.  I also am proud of the way this contest has generated more buzz about the work our members are doing with their tools.

I think this was a great start to a new element of the forum!  Of course, we had to work out some kinks in the contest system the first month, but now I think we have it down and can look forward to several exciting contests in the months ahead.

Remember, since we have open deadlines, if you did not win this month, your project will be automatically considered for future contests.

Congratulations to Eiji, and thank you to everyone who submitted a project.  And a big thanks to all members who contributed to the discussion about the contest.

Matthew

Congratualtions, Eiji!  Thanks for all the work you put into your entry.  It was very educational and inspirational to me.

Thank you,
Matthew, judges, and everyone. What an honor! I can't wait to see what I can do with the 700. Matthew the idea of the contest is great and hopefully we can continue with them. I want to write more but I have to get ready for church. I thank God for giving me the skill to do what I love.

Eiji Fuller

Congradulations Eiji, You earned it. I had to borrow a computer to see who won but I really already knew. Your work speaks for itself. Fine job my friend. :) Oops, I just realized I'm logged in under my BILs user name. Be right back.
